"Designer Clothes"

Some could argue that Lacoste, Diesel etc ARE designer.

If you take a look at Calvin Klein, the company designs and produces catwalk collections twice a year yet sells millions of pants in every country which are mass produced. Lacoste does similar. They also have catwalk collections twice a year which are often very good but are overshadowed by the crappy tracksuits they sell loads of.

Calvin Klein make the bulk of their money from undies. Lacoste make their money from tracksuits.

As is Stone Island and Prada nowadays. I still own clothes by those 2 designers but I am not a chav :).

To be fair those two aren't that bad, most chav's I know who wear 'Stone Island' are actually wearing horrendous fakes that you can spot from a mile off, unfortunately the brand has been generally killed as a whole by films such as Football Factory and Green Street, since now every chav is trying dress like someone off there

I suppose i did not pick the best brands or what have you. But a pair of levis cost almost £200, how does that compare to proper designer clothing?

Buy quality, not name. With many things, however...The two go hand in hand.

absolutely

even though a standard uses term "designer" is farcical if you think about it, I often buy expensive clothes but for quality and not name, I tend to avoid stuff with very visible logos

I use to think g star was a decent brand.. Until it produced lots of mass market cheapy ****

Debatable...G-Star jeans are very good and i love my pair - fit nicely. I think they sell G-Star in Republic now which i was a bit...surprised at. :o I think they have simply brought out cheaper pairs that are around £70 as opposed to their usual £130+.

Most Levis don't come in above the £100 mark; yes, they are available but not overly common. IIRC, something like 80% of their sales are through the standard 501 line.

As you'll know and yes, this is a generalisation, the more you spend the less need for a "look at how big my wallet is" symbol/logo :)

Its the same with louis vuitton handbags, your not buying a hand crafted masterpiece made in a rustic workshop in rural France, mass marketing requires mass production, and that means all this kind of stuff is made on production lines in the far-east.

In many cases, the fakes are just as good as the real thing. If you want a good bit of clothing, then you will have to get it custom made by a real life tailor.

I must admit it makes me cringe when I see people wearing big brash labels stitched onto the clothes....I did buy into that kind of thing when I was about 15, with Tommy and Hugo Boss jackets...thankfully I have seen the light!

I bough a nice D&G jumper when I was over in the States there and to my surprise it was a nice plain fine woolen jumper......couldnt believe it.....no logo! :o

I can assure you that I can spot a fake LV from a hundred yards.
