My friend is after her first car. She has about £700 to spend. It will be mainly used for city driving and short trips. I don't really know whats good these days in the first car market, especially at the £700 mark. Any help would be great. Thanks.

best bets to just look at small engined cars. as above i'd recommend a fiesta (you can prob get a mark 3 for £700 if she hunts for a bargain. They're nice to drive, very low insurance (the 1.3 finesse is group 4/5 i think)

For 700quid, a nissan micra will be fine, provided you can get over the fact its an old mans car.

Looking for the same myself, im 29 with a budget of 5k for my first car, really tempted with a new style golf or also quiet like the saxo and 206. Any suggestions for that price range ?

You will need more than £5k for a MkV Golf.
get one for a couple hundred and keep the rest for repairs ;D
