Brave move but I can see why they are doing this also means the PC version will probably be out before the PS3/360 version in Europe as its out in the US next month on PC only.

Does anyone now if there is anyway to get a US Steam release in UK or is the Steam store region locked?

Apparently the US version is STEAM only on 30/09/08. Europe will get the PC-DVD in November same time as 360/PS3 release.

I'd have bought it over Steam anywho :)

the nineties called, they want their physical media back!

What are the odds of this being any good? Silent Hill has been pants for awhile now hasn't it?

Not really. As far as the PC games go, they've all be been great imho and pretty much consistent. Silent Hill 4: The Room was a little odd, mainly because it actually had very good idea (the "Room") and storyline with lots of potential, but in the end it was poorly implemented and made the gameplay a little annoying.

Hopefully Konami have learnt from the mistakes of SH4 and we should expect something along the likes of SH2/SH3 this time round. Plus, SH5 this will be PS3/Xbox 360 level graphics which should be a welcome improvement compared to the last three games which have all been PS2 level.

offline Steam games have been cracked for years, unfortunately.

Anywho, back on topic..

:)

need for steam/purchase to have the game (easily)?

What if most people say I either download it or I never play it?

Anyways distributing it on steam does mean there's a bigger percentage to the developer surely? As it saves on some retail costs ?
But it misses out on a lot of people that want the retail box and or collectors. imo there should also be a limited retail collectors edition with a bit higher price for the retail premium for the diehard retail fans but try to sell most on steam.

given the choice i would prefer to buy it on steam....no worries about losing the disk or it getting damaged or even needing a disk in the drive.

but really they need to lower prices on steam

No, only The Room was bad. Silent Hill 1, 2, 3 are all seen as masterpieces in the genre.

Steam is THE anti-piracy tool. Anyone familiar with it would know what I mean.

Steam games are often cracked more easily than non-steam ones...

Though aside from that, I agree /re the Room being the main sucky game in the series.

I loved how in 2 or 3 you could set the puzzle difficulty up high. High difficulty puzzles were impressively challenging :)

Only silent hill 4 was rubbish imo and even then it was only rubbish in comparison to its predecessors. Can't wait, terrifying games and even if it is only as good as silent hill 4 it will still be way up there in the survival horror genre.

(yes the PSP version of silent hill was dire, but it didn't count :p)

I cant decide if to get the PC version or the 360 version. Problem is in all likelyhood I will get the PC version if its out before the 360 as I get impatient :D
