iRacing release price details

Thanks Skill, you've pretty much swayed me to have ago at the trial when its open to the public next week.

I'm a bit scared I'm going to get hooked on it like GPL, it took over my life a bit and couldn't quit it until I done a sub 8 ring time....only this time it might bankrupt me too :D

anyone know whats going on with iracing? I was looking forward to its release today but just noticed the counter has gone back up to 24 hours!?

Dunno, just tried to check the members area and it's down for maintenance, it better be back in an hour or so when I get home :p

Very tempted by this, just to see how accurate it is, shame there is no short demo, just to get a feel for it, dont mind paying if it is good and most importantly lag free, which I would wonder as it is USA based.

I subscribe and do enjoy the sim, it's got a steep learning curve, I use it to train consistency and concentration for my real life racing. It's the closest game/sim I've ever come across, so far I've found it very good if lacking in a few details (desperately needs blue flags).

Another problem for me is we have such a great GTR2 league, I dont know where I would find time for another sim
Now if we could all go across to this it would be different but that is not possible I hear.

Not yet but that is being added as top priority by all accounts.

As for lag, its not an issue even with the servers in the us, it has the best netcode of any sim.

I've been playing it all evening and it has that papy feel about it even with the slow cars. I played GPL to a pretty high level (top 10 UK GPLrank when I finished with it in '02) and in terms of physics realism I've never found anything to match it, thus have not played any sims for about 5 years as they all fall short in this respect. Finally I think I've found my "GPL II".

Glad to hear you like it :)

Dunno if you've seen, or if you want to commit so far already, but for those people with a 12 month subscription before the 29th august are getting an extra $15 credit, so for $156 you get the 12 months and $75 credit, makes it a tad nicer and convinced me to sign up :)

I'm not doing so well at Laguna Seca in the rookie solstice though, got lime rock park pretty much nailed (imo :p), my last race I was consistantly in the low 1:04's for the entire race, and had a good time trying to make the leader make a mistake, now at laguna seca can't seem to get even into the 1:50's which I think I should be capable of, and can't get consistant either, although my last two races have been good with the exception of incidents 'caused' by other people, but then I really should've avoided them better :p

Still addicted though, unlike GPL where I was happy to just hotlap this almost forces me to race, which I enjoy, but it's improved my consistancy by a massive amount, rather than 1 quick lap with loads of mistakes on other laps I'm now able to put in multiple quick laps much easier.

Also anyone else liking the oval racing, didn't even consider it before this, but seeing as it's there I tried the rookie legends round south boston last week and it's quite fun, partially as it's so easy to drive consistantly in it. Tried the advanced legends though and it's a whole different beast :p

Just finished an exhausting 2nd at Laguna.
More than anything, it's nice to see GPL, ten years on, alive, well, and STILL kicking the gearbox of everything else, even under a new name and full of yank tanks.

Blue flags are SOOOOo lacking, wouldn't be so bad but for people who don't use F3.....or don't wonder why a car has rocketed up onto their tail and is weaving furiously. I binned it at LimeRock trying to avoid a backmarker's spin.....after following the eejit for 4 laps!

I feel your pain about GTR2......I'm scared to play another sim now in case I pick up bad habits that cost me in Iracing :(

Must get meself a skippy......I splashed out and bought a Radical and an Fmazda (great, but has cast iron T/C enabled). Also bought Silverstone, the ONLY non septic circuit. Hopefully Spa and the Nordschleife, Monaco and Le Mans are on the way.

It seems BTW, that they use the exact same laser scanning tech that F1 teams use to sim new circuits, like Valencia last weekend.

Anyway...I am L O V I N it.
I had to bail from UKGPL when I started nightshift, as I was finishing most races as a nervous wreck, 10 mins before I was due to start work a mile away :( So it's SO good to be back competing with the best again.
(even if I'm quite definitely more Ralf than Michael (or more Michael than Mario, if you're a seppo ;) )

Can I ask how much that $156 worked out in pounds on your credit card. was it $2 to £1 or near enough.

Just checked my card (Natwest btw) and it cost £87.76, so £7.31 a month, ignoring the credit you get back (and I would definately have bought the skippy when I can get my SR to 4.00, or wait till my licence upgrades :p)

What's the radical like, might have to buy that at some point, gonna go for 6 (or more) items to get the discount when I get the skippy but not sure what six, iirc it's the skippy and two tracks for that league, was considering the next oval car (long model iirc, or maybe SK modified) but not sure yet :p

Hi,

I will be giving this a go at some point, as much as I'd like to go for a year, I'm going to stick with 1 or 3 months to start. I never really gave GPL a chance, I played it after I had been playing LFS for years and never got on with the physics in GPL. Simply didn't enjoy it. Now, as I do enjoy the physics and FF in LFS, how would you veterans ( :) ) compare iRacing's feel and mechanics to LFS? Disregarding gameplay/graphics etc.

Yeah, I wouldn't really reccomend anyone goes for 12 months to start with, the 1 month - $20 package is enough to give a taster and works out under £11 so cheap enough,

As for comparing it to LFS, I was the opposite, played (and liked) GPL first, tried LFS and although it was ok I always found it to be a bit 'dead' feeling compared to GPL, just couldn't get on with it,

iRacing is much more like GPL but updated and obviously very different cars, so depends really why you didn't like GPL, if it was cause the cars were a bit of a pig to handle, then you may like iRacing as the cars are easier, albeit definately not easy. But if it was the whole feel of the game that you didn't like then maybe iRacing isn't for you, I would definately try it though...

imo the Physics, FF, 'feel' and handling of the cars in iRacing is far superior to LFS, but then that's just that, an opinion...
