Unfortunatley, not even close.

When a 280 and a x2 are put under Very High at 1920 resolution (even without AA), they can average neck and neck results of around 22-24fps.

Putting two X2 together, results in even less frames.


About the only thing an X2 is good for, is benchmarks, and Age of Conan.

It's definatley not a Crysis killer.

It's an over-hyped, high power drawing, nasty heat outputting monster, that blows the doors off all the games that other cards already get 60fps at, but fails when it comes to the few games that actually need something with that kinda power.

If people thought the 280 was a 'barn-burner,' try an X2; better yet, try X2 in crossfire ;D

4870X2 in CF needs the side port function working which is driver disabled at this present time.

For starters, I couldn't care less about crysis, it's one of the most boring games I've played and the mutliplayer is even worse. I completed it and haven't bothered to take the game out its case since. I know many people feel the same and I'm aware that many people can't get enough in which case waiting for crysis warhead might pay off.

High end graphics cards produce heat and need power! OH NOES, protip: this is not something new. I'd like to see all these other cards that are able to pull constant smooth and high framerates at 19x12/25x16 with at least 4-8xaa online and offline.

The only thing wrong with ati's cards is the state of the driver support, It feels like a bodge job. Whereas the problem with nvidia is their BBQ gpu's/mcp's and required hardware for sli.

Im sick to the back teeth of all this Crysis crap, its only one bloody game, who gives a ****, nothing can run that heap of excrement well, even 3x GTX 280's in Tri SLi cant run the thing, 1280x1024 they get about 40 odd, higher resolutions were talking the teens, why oh why is everyone just playing that, why doesn't anyone play any other games ffs, why are you all lashing out hundreds of pounds, and in some cases thosuands on cards/CPU's etc... when all your playing is 1x single game that costs about £20, theres no point you having PC's.

Your all gona be back here in the next coupe of years whinging/moaning on, just bought a GTX800 (or whatever) and still can't run me 1 game

As bad as all those idiots who install the latest drivers for their cards, run the Cry bench, see no improvement, so go straight back to their previous drivers without trying anything else and posting all over the place how utter **** those new drivers are and that no one should install them as Cry bench is the bloody same, or they got 1 frame extra.

Anyway on topic, nice to see the 2x 4870's beating the way more expensive SLi'd 280's.

While i do commend your enthusiasm for ATI, or perhaps enthusiasm for Anti-Nvidia, not only does TRI-SLI gtx280s score way higher than that in Crysis (Try 40 odd at 1920 x 1200, not 1280 x 1024), it beats quad crossfire 4870X2s, despite having one less gpu. In the 4870X2s favour it does score very favourably against gtx 280 SLI at all the resolutions most of us are using, 30" monitors aren't exactly common place.

Unfortunately, Nvidia are still the way to go for those who must have the best!

Anybody who spends the good part of £700 to play Crysis is either rich or mad.

Anyway, I have a 30" monitor and Nividia is not the best performing cards for me.

Im a great fan of crysis and im awaiting the warhead expansion with great anticipation.

You're absolutely right with the X2 in crossfire being slightly worse but i think this was a driver related issue or something.

Well don't know too much about it but i think the X2 is pretty good across the board and i will be playing at high resolution so im pretty certain that power will help me out.

As I was telling you earlier 2 x2s doesnt justify the cost and one is more than powerful to cope with any game out there.
