Had an altercation with the front wing of an Eunos Roadster the other day, the guy is being alright about it and we've decided not to go through insurance as my excess plus cost of losing no claims means it'll probably be cheaper for me to pay outright.

It definitaly needs a new front wing, and the owner says a new door, but I'm sceptical over that. He seems willing to source used panels from a breakers so that should save a bit of cash, and hopefully he'll get quotes from Bob's Backstreet Bodyshop. Anything less than £500 I can probably swallow, but over that and I'm not sure.

I'm so annoyed at myself right now!

Its my partners insurance (I'm a named driver on the car I was driving at the time), and it is £450 for accidental damage.

i say screw him, report it yo your insurance company first and deny everything and blame him (his word against yours) theres no damage to your car make him prove it.

Think about it, if someone did a load of damage to your car you would want new parts, not go hunting around breakers yards on your own time.

Excess doesnt apply to his damage though so its just the ncb you dont want to lose right
Didn't know that. We'll see what quotes he gets first.

There were witnesses, so that isn't an option.

It was his suggestion to get used parts. The car isn't exactly in pristine condition anyway.

I wonder if you'd have that attitude if it was your car that was damaged by somebody else? The OP has already admitted liability (Else why would he be willing to pay for repair?). Disgusting.

EDIT: OP, I'd wait and see what quotes he comes up with and compare that against how much you'll lose due to loss of NCB (Could hurt you quite a bit depending on age - I know it certainly would do to me at 20). Good luck.

I think it's odd that he would spend his time looking for spares himself, and at the slightest hint of something dodgy i would get the insurance involved.

When somebody reversed into my wing, I was quite happy to sort it out without going through the insurance and was quite happy to get quotes myself... Afterall I'd rather know who exactly will be fixing my car and with what.

None the less, I do agree with you that if it starts to not "feel right" and something seems odd then give the insurance a bell (If that IS the case then sooner rather than later). Having said that, this really wasn't the impression I got from your original post.

Dont think it is. Many enthusiast owners love going shopping for bits and pieces for their car. Your attitude really sucks by the way. Personally however, i would just go thru the insurance myself. With 500 to fork out (i reckon it could easily cost that if the bits have to be sprayed) i cant see a huge saving paying it for yourself and i dont like being held over a barrel. I would also be worried about him putting a personal injury claim in later which the insurance might not help with if you didnt report the accident?

What a revolting attitude, people like you make me sick. Please go away and come back when you have grown up enough to accept responsibility for you own actions.

I'm sure he won't be doing that as he was sat in his house playing Rockband at the time!

Thanks for the opinions guys, I'll let him get back to me with some quotes before anything gets decided.

You are very lucky IMO.

Without wanting to make myself sound like a tool if someone bashed my car I'd want all new bits, sprayed and fitted at a place of my choice and an equivalent (in size) rental for the duration of the work. Even then I'd still have to be strongly persuaded not to go down the insurance route due to the 4 year warrenty my insurer gives on repairs.

Are you serious?

I hope you get fully screwed over by someone just as sly as you when you take this approach one day.. :)
