Starring out swear words.....

No it doesn't. Whenever I've seen a moderator tell someone off for not fully starring it out they're referring to a case where they leave a letter or two of the actual word (not ing/er etc) unstarred.

'tell someone off', lololol... there is never a case when you can be 'told off' on a forum on the net.

if someone considers themself 'told off' then they are taking the internet too serious.

*****!!!! (starts with c lmao)

What this is really about is that in any controlled environment people will always try to test the boundaries to see how far they can get. Its exactly the same when people use cryptic clues when mentioning competitors. They damn well know deep down it is against the rules but I'd say a good proportion of those that do it are doing it to test how rigid the moderating is becoming, it is human nature to want to push up against the boundaries. Some probably see it as a challenge. Though every now and then the mods will crack down and everybody shrinks back, then it slowly comes back. I've noticed quite a bit of this cryptic competitor talk of late so I'm half expecting another crack down on that front sooner or later. As regards swearing, in the last thread about this about 6 months ago the "****ing" thing came out which I wasn't aware of up till then, I always thought it had to be fully starred out, but since that thread I noticed an immediate increase in the number of -ing type swears used all over the place. What happened was there was effectively a sudden release of pressure with people thinking "thank **** I can use a sweary in such a way everyone will know what I mean and get away with it". Now it seems the waters are being tested again.

Do it the easy way. Don't swear. :)

Swearing is part of the english language.
It was invented so that when we want to deeply express something "I ****ing love cricket!" we can swear and show our emotions.

I don't know why people take offence, they're just words, but if the mods don't want, the mods don't get.

That's exaclty an example when swearing has no point. Swearing should only be used in the extreme circumstances when any other word simply doesn't emote your feelings in the particular context. And it's those situations that simply don't accur on an internet forum without breaking the personal attack rule.

I bet they won't play this song on the radio
I bet you they won't play this new **** song
It's not that it's **** or ****** **** controversial
Just that the ****ing words are awfully strong

You can't say **** on the radio
Or **** or ***** or ******,
You can't even say I'd like to **** you one day
Unless you're a doctor with a very large ****

So I bet you they won't play this song on the radio
I bet you they daren't ****ing well programme it
I bet you their ****** old Programme Directors
Will think it's a load of horse ****

I wonder what it is about computer games that cause the massive amounts of swearing :D

It's not actually computer games, it's warhammer/wh40k getting slightly over excited with some of the dice rolls (it's very serious business when you're down to your last heavy gun and some weedy looking fellow with a high powered melee weapon is about to kill it;) :p ).

You're missing the point. People who can't control themselves enough to refrain from swearing aren't really the sort of people we want here, it helps us see who reads the FAQ and who doesn't which in turn helps us sus out members.

Judging from the DR leaks a while back, it would seem most of the mods can't control themselves, and in there just swear for the sake of it.

In my experience it's neither computer games or Warhammer! I blame the ****ing parents!:p

You've had two edits and two suspensions. All fully deserved.
