im thinking about jumping up to a 780i, quad core and getting 4gig of ram (my sig is incorrect, need to update it)

first question, what quad core as my budget is pretty tight. the second question, will i notice much performance increase? and what type of increase? as in quicker loading times? less stuttery in game...

ags

I've just gone to x64 from x86 vista ultimate and apart from ataining the full 4GB of memory (pre 3.25) I can see no difference at all. This is the first time I have used a x64 OS and many apps even though they say they are 64 compliant have created a "C:\Program Files (x86)" profile.... Which has puzzled me lol

No issue's as yet tho which is a good thing. (touches wood)

Get a good dual core, you'll notice next to no difference in almost all your games with a quad because most of them aren't even optimised to use two cores fully. People will tell you that games will start to support multiple cores more and more, but I don't really see it happening, and dual cores have been around for a few years now.

What is your actual current system?

If it's even close to what's in your sig I can't imagine 'upgrading' to 780i+quad core will yield any tangible improvement in performance.

quad core might become more useful as time goes on, If you have the cash why not buy one now ? :D
My sig is correct. Its the first time ive ever used a 64bit OS. To me it seems to run loads quicker than when i had XP 32 pro on the system but then i have got 8gig of RAM :p

Won't be faster in games, in fact the other way round.

Right....Vista64 will actually make proper use of a multicore, 64bit cpu, and will also use the full 4GB of memory, but it'll be slower because Vista is evil. Some stranger on the internet told me so.

Post pics where all games show performance increase over XP please.

You do it, you're the one making unsubstantiated blanket claims!

Classic troll behaviour :

1. Make a wild claim without giving any reasons or data to back it up.
2. Wait for someone to object.
3. Tell them to prove you wrong, still without giving any backup to your claims.

It's well known that Vista has slower performance in games. Just because the OS is 64 bit and you have 4GB doesn't mean gaming will be faster.

And also just because it isn't XP doesn't mean it'll be slower either. Old, boring argument.

Id love to know where its well known that vista is slower
My Vista 64 been runnin fine and quick. I think some people are just plain stubbon

Vista x64 is fast, I've not played any games on it though as I'm not really into gaming that much any more but a lot of people on the net say it is pretty good for games. Although I find XP a bit faster for games like Counter Strike Source, I have switched from Vista 64 to XP 64 as I'm still too used to XP plus the games I do play run faster in XP64 but this is probably because my system is a little bit dated.

Hey I remember when Win95 came and everything was so much faster in DOS.. I think badbob need to get DOS installed to make his games FLY! I mean just imagine how much faster it must be compared to XP....

Vista may be slow and buggy but the new Moave( whatever they called it) is so much better. Nicer GUI than XP and very fast and easy to use. Oh wait...

Mojave?

Vista feels quite smooth for me. Games have also caught up now...maybe even faster.

Although I like XP for some reason...:p
