Is traffic on the M4 Eastbound from Swindon > West London (Chiswick) usually horrendous after work?

And how long is the journey likely to take in the rush hour from 5pm today?

Ta.

don't do it :]
the M4 will be very busy, the M25 will be a joke.

If you can leave Swindon at 6 it will be much better for you

He won't need to touch the M25, the M4/A4 goes right to Chiswick.

Expect to have possible delays around Reading, Maidenhead, Slough, Heathrow, Hounslow etc. though, it's a very busy stretch of road at that time of day. There are some roadworks up by junction 6 (Slough/Windsor) I think as well.

^^ Correct, still dont fancy the M25/M4 junction! ^^

M4 Eastbound shouldn't be to bad as the majority will be coming away from London, the M25 on the other hand will be horrendous in both directions!

It never seems to be that bad there to me thanks the to extra lanes and length of 'sliproad' coming off the M4 at that point. Mind you I don't use that stretch on a regular basis these days.

M4 Eastbound isn't too bad at that time of day but those works around Slough are really holding stuff up.
Expect to be in stop/start traffic from J3 onwards though.

Ah right, well, if you are doing M4 all the way past the M25 then don't worry about the M25 junction. all the traffic will be in the left 2 lanes (1st lane is for the junction, people will be trying to queue jump from the 2nd lane though).

sometimes its really bad around Heathrow (when I drive in the other direction) but with the fantastic school holidays at the moment I think it should be much better.

ahh school holidays, means I can stay in bed for some extra ZZZZ's before going to work. love it. only for the next week or 2 though.
