I last night overclocked my Q6600 in a P5Q Deluxe with a Tuniq Tower

I am @ 1.425 volts but getting too hot in Prime (throttling kicks in after 30 mins)

When idle it is around 40C

Speedfan reports Core 0,1,2,3 @ 75C and rising after 30 minutes of blend.

I was suprised at the jump when stll at relatively low voltage

I have extra tightened all the TTowers screws - there is one I can't get to without motherboard removal - so I may remove the mobi and reapply thermal paste and reseat the Tuniq, the other option is to throttle back the volts and drop the Mhz a bit - anyone got any tips?

I also have a couple of spare fans (2x120mm and 3x80mm) so might have a read through the motherboard manual to see if there is a 3 pin connector for extra's (I'm thinking I could use my free Asus 80mm pointed from the Hard disk cage to blow over the memory+top side of the CPU). If I do this I'll report back with new temps.

Sorry for waffling on - at least I know I can get 3.3 with no problems so I can always drop back to that but you know what us OC'ers are like

I have my Q6600 running at 3.1GHz but haven't had to up the voltage from 1.325v yet. RAM is overclocked by about 12MHz.

What I find a little odd is that my cores idle at 40-49C, higher than yours, yet at full pelt I only reach 61C. I guess the extra voltage has a disproportionate affect on the heat. Not sure I want to push mine that far so I might settle for the easy life :)

that looks about right to me.

i have mine sitting on 3.3GHz right now with tuniq.

38C idle and around 60-65C load

as soon as i push the voltage more to get 3.4+ it goes up to aroun 70-75C load which is abit high for me.

could try lapping?

i will if you do:rolleyes:

do you put your tuniq on full blast?

no i keep in on the lowest cos it gets too noisy at full blast.

i only see 1 or 2 C difference when going to fullblast which imo isnt worth the extra noise it produces.

Mine gets pretty hot as well @3.4ghz, 1.4125 vcore. At load in prime95 i was getting 77,76,72,72 across all cores. my idle temps are 37,35,34,32 cooled with an arctic freezer 7 pro. Ive got a TRUE120 and 2 1500rpm pwm fans that will be replacing the arctic cooler as soon as i get the TRUE lapped.

I find if I have the 12cm fan on my Tuniq Tower at full blast it's worse than turning it down to about 75%. I think my back fan, also 12cm, is not able to keep up and is probably re-circulating the hot air instead of pushing it out the rear of the case.
