My old motherboard has died and i'm looking to put together a new budget computer for surfing the net and a small amount of document, letter printing. I don't need super speed just something that will plod along and be reliable. I have a PCI video card and two other PCI in/out devices. Can anyone suggest a motherboard Intel or AMD that would suit along these lines?
I realise i'll have to update the CPU and Memory.
Thanks

That'll plod along just nicely. if you want, chuck in a cooler and overclock the chip.

A p45 mobo is overkill for your needs, so is 4gb RAM. IMHO.

just to make sure, I assumed that you meant any form of pci slot, that board has:
- 1x PCI Express x16 slot
- 3x PCI Express x1 slots
- 3x PCI slots

Excellent choice and more than enough for what the OP needs. I also know for a fact that if you get a good E2180 that that board will get it to anything up to 3.6Ghz as i have done it myself.

However, i do have issues with OCUK's pricing of the P31 DS3L. Since we have been recommending it it has increased in price by £7. You may say £7 is not a lot of money, but it is when the board only cost £42 a week ago. It has'nt increased at other places either.

I didn't even notice :o

OK great info, i'll look into the second spec computer....don't think i need the large memory on this machine. Thinking of going with an Intel DP35DP for a DAW, might need 4 gig of memory for that one.
Many Thanks

Note that the Intel board doesn't support overclocking (at all) and only guarantees it is compatible with 1.8 volt DDR2 memory (like Corsair 667 Mhz Value Select).
