Hi
Just asking for opinions here!
I am currenty using the 2 x 1gb RAM see here..
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp... Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC)
I am using it in an EVGA 780i with a an e8400 wolfdale overclocked at 4.1ghz (9x455.5). I used to run the RAM (2.1v)at 800mhz because if I used the tight timings of 4,4,4,12 and overclocked to get synchronisation at 911mhz I would get RAM errors testing using prime95. This error still happened but a lot less often if I raised the MCP voltage a small amount, and the RAM to 2.3v. I have now dropped the northbridge MCP voltage and the RAM voltage back to stock (2.1v), and have slackened the timings to 5,5,5,18 and overclocked to 911mhz, and it runs all day without errors.
I am currently running XP with the latest Service Pack and I am considering setting up a second hard drive using Vista 64 and will be looking to use 4GB RAM. My dilemma and this is where I am asking for opinions, is whether I purchase a further 2GB of the same GeIL RAM, or sell it and purchase 2 X 2GB of the following:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...al Channel Platinum Series DDR2 (OCZ2P10664GK)
I have it in my mind that the above RAM although it has timings at 1066mhz of 5-5-5-18, that I can run it at tighter timings of 4,4,4,12 at the lower 911mhz that I am currently running at. There is also the added benefit of Windows XP seeing up to 3.5gb of the new 4gb RAM. Does this make sense?
PS. I have quoted the GeIL 2 x 2GB RAM kit, however, there may be a better kit that will allow the tighter timings at 911mhz. Anybody know if there is?
Thoughts anybody please?
