Quick sub £1500 car?

you got a good list there anyway, as already said Xsara VTS, maybe also starlet 1.3 turbo (i think theyre 1.3 iirc and stupidly tunable)... not sure if the starlets can be had for that budget though...

Blah blah blah, shagged old turbo monsters, blah blah blah condemned old rovers etc etc.

Atpbx says Neon R/T, 0-60 in 7.6 seconds, top speed 132 miles an hour, leather interior, 6 speaker 5 cd auto changer as standard, air con, alloys, reliable, good looking with the right spoiler on it etc etc.

People who know nothing about the car slate it............... rinse and repeat.

;)

only trying to help.

Grr cant get an online quote for an S40 T4...

I always fancied a 106 Rallye - the S1s still seem to go for fairly big money though..

Haven't had time to read whole thread, but Starlet GT Turbo?

Not sure if its sub £1500 yet though...

Well I browsed through here up to just over £2500 the other night as that'll be about my budget. But you can't get any GT4s for £1500 certainly, can get GT and ST though, although I expect them to be dogs.

Still, doesn't really help the OP and I don't actually know what I want, just browsing ideas well in advance of being able to get. :p

On that link there are two gt 4's on the second page, one for under budget and one at 1600. I assume your only talking about gen 6 gt 4's, im talking about gen 5 gt 4's.

Oh and at the current prices you will get a very fine gen 6 GT for your budget, mine only set me back 1.8k and its sweet as a nut :)

Aren't those GT4s a little bit rough? - I know nothing on these cars. Just price for something that's performance seems a bit low to me. :)

I don't know if I'll go Celica, they do look like a good choice, but will look into them (as well as other cars) more over the next few months.

Glad that my money should get me a good one though, I prefer the Gen 6 ones certainly. The GT is non turbo isn't it? The GT4 is turbo and 4wd, yes? :)

Ok not the best looking car in the world and lacks the under 8 seconds but a primera gt? Surely thats gotta be worth a thought?

How about a Saab 9-3 Turbo? Ticks all the boxes.

Go for the 2.0 full pressure turbo that will see 185hp and 60 in well under 8 seconds. Overtaking punch is really impressive.

Just make sure the bulkhead hasn't cracked as this does happen causing the brake servo to move with the steering wheel amongst other things. Oh, and don't expect good handling, mine rolls like a boat and I have had wheelspin in the wet at 60mph.

Is there any difference really between the 1.9 and 2.0 models? Anything to know about them? Can you up the boost for cheap power?

About 40bhp between the 1.9 and the 2.0, LPT on the 2.0.
I had mine remapped for about £300 which supposedly gave it about 240bhp, I could then drive everywhere a gear higher than I used to and still have the same performance, huge difference. :)

Parkers says the 1.9 and 2.0 T4s both have 200bhp :o

Energy, the crappy handling is whats putting me off the Saab 9-3 tbh.

As for the Mk1 Golf, would love one but they're too old :(

Meh, depends on service history etc. hard to tell from the adverts really. GT is non turbo yes, go for a uk car if you can, less to insure and has the 3sge engine as opposed to the 3sfe which is lower powered and less reliable. Some imports do have the 3sge aswell though so make sure you know what you're looking for.

Other thing to look out for on imports is that some have the same superstrut suspension system as the GT 4 but this is a pain with needing an expensive 'fig.8' replacement around every 60k. And yep, GT-4 is a twin entry turbo with 4wd, beast of a car for the money :)

You tired looking at Almera GTi's? If you look hard enough you could find a 99 facelift model for £1500. Only problem is that it's a 2 liter. Still 150BHP from the great SR20 and is cheap as chips to get it to around 170BHP. Also your getting a quite a new car for your money with a lot of kit that a usual jap car comes with.

If 2 Liter is a no no then i would say the valver people have suggested is most prob the best option. Although watch out for the torque steer :D.

Rover 220 Turbo would be the fastest car in that price range. My old one was ace and I paid £800 for it about 8 years ago :D
