No offence, but for 80% of the MMO population now, WoW did start the genre. So that is why everything now and in the future will be "is it better then WoW"
Do a survey, its pretty easy to find out.
It does sound crazy, but all the games prior to WoW are "small fry" in player base comparison. People don't remember the actor of Golem from lord of the rings, they just remember Golem![]()
Why people get so defensive over a point i was trying to make which was pretty damn clear.
WoW's average player base is 12-18 year olds. Now almost all of them will not have heard of UO or SWG, played it or experienced it. So when they compare a new game to a old game in regards to MMO's they'll compare WoW, its the largest MMO ever made, so there bound to do it.
I'm not arguing symantics with you, just try to understand the point im making rather then dragging this into another direction.
WOWs player base numbers are so much larger than the other MMOs that came before it, in part due to internet coverage at the time after its release. Compaired to the years before its release the earlyer MMOs were held back by a limited number of gamers with net conections and they were braking ground in that game type. Average joy gamer didn't know what an MMO was in the years before WOW, now they do thanks to WOW it doesn't make WOW the benchmark or be all to end all of MMOs. Some of the earlyer MMOs were and still are much better games than WOW.
