Two must see Warhammer Online Vids...

No offence, but for 80% of the MMO population now, WoW did start the genre. So that is why everything now and in the future will be "is it better then WoW"

Do a survey, its pretty easy to find out.

It does sound crazy, but all the games prior to WoW are "small fry" in player base comparison. People don't remember the actor of Golem from lord of the rings, they just remember Golem ;)

Why people get so defensive over a point i was trying to make which was pretty damn clear.

WoW's average player base is 12-18 year olds. Now almost all of them will not have heard of UO or SWG, played it or experienced it. So when they compare a new game to a old game in regards to MMO's they'll compare WoW, its the largest MMO ever made, so there bound to do it.

I'm not arguing symantics with you, just try to understand the point im making rather then dragging this into another direction.

WOWs player base numbers are so much larger than the other MMOs that came before it, in part due to internet coverage at the time after its release. Compaired to the years before its release the earlyer MMOs were held back by a limited number of gamers with net conections and they were braking ground in that game type. Average joy gamer didn't know what an MMO was in the years before WOW, now they do thanks to WOW it doesn't make WOW the benchmark or be all to end all of MMOs. Some of the earlyer MMOs were and still are much better games than WOW.

I'm not debating if WoW is better then anything or not. All i said was because of the player base not experiencing any other mmo then WoW, that is there bench mark.

Jesus, i thought my statement was pretty clear.

Its a benchmark for kids, anyone else who enjoys various other MMO games will have their fingers in differant pies to see which one tastes the best.

That is far too subjective a comment to really be called true. There are plenty of veteran MMO players (for want of a better term) who play WoW and think it is a much better game than the games that came before it. What WoW did (and Funcom have gone on to ignore) is get people to expect a well polished game on release rather than a buggy game that may improve (Vanguard, AoC, AA I am looking at you...)

Awww...I loved UO, its still the best MMO in its prime that I've ever played (imo). Though I was never particularly keen on SWG though, not really into sci-fi

With regards to WoW, lets not all have hazy memories here. It may not have been released with many bugs but most of the servers used to be absolute crap for a long time, it was far from a perfect gaming experience.

True for many but WOW was not as polished as people make out. If a server had a low load it was great. Problem was that all the release servers were overloaded, lag and log-on times were of the scale and stayed that way for years. They had to change the game mechanics to keep the servers up, battlegrounds, townguards, the honour system. All that was to stop town and city raids. One of the main selling points of the game in its beta's. Don't get me wrong it was a fun game, for me other game had a more lasting memory. UO, Lineage 2 and Eve.

Hmm gah ganna have to side with a 187 player noooo ! :P . WoW is THE benchmark , fullstop , its what mythic themselves compare themselves with. Its not the benchmark because its the best mmo ever, its cos it makes a hell of a lot of money. Which is exactly why EA bought WAR, too make a lot of cash.

WoW for me is the CS of the mmo world, a game that graps peoples attention very quickly and doesnt let go. Its not for me , just like CS isnt , i prefer other types of FPS games, like TFC/2 but CS is still the benchmark that people talk about when a new multiplayer is released for the PC.

Anyways heres the torrent http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RUZ57XFN for the WAR openbeta ect, so least can end on a good note :P

There is no need to get all upset fanboy.

If you cant handle peoples opinions, what are you doing on a forum?

I'm not upset :) You are saying the animations are all clunky, when devs stated that the animations are all being changed before launch etc.. ?

Oh and i don't know if being a Wow fanboy is so much better :p

I wouldnt class my self as any fanboy personally. Considering at one point i was ready to leave and join AoC while i was Beta testing it.

It's more to do with the fact that there is NO other mmo with as much polish, stability and enjoyment factor on the market today to beat WoW.

I have so much faith in Blizzard for making amazing games, that this will be the case when WotLK launches and even then it'll be hard to come close to the enjoyment of WoW.

The only game that will make any kind of impact on its playerbase will be another game made by Blizzard.

So if I'm a fanboy of anything, it would be over Blizzard and personally i don't feel like that should be considered a bad thing in anyway.

While i agree with you to some extent as a lot of people here have stated when WoW first started it wasnt no where near as polished or stable as it is now and for some reason you cant comprehend that.

War is a new game it is still in Beta (that means its still being tested :D) so ofc atm its not going to be as good as WoW. Im not a WAR fanboy as i have been playing WoW for the last 3 years and have really enjoyed my time on WoW. But that doesnt mean you have to ney say about other mmos comparing contantly with WoW otherwise you will never enjoy any other games on the market.

I bet you are REALLY glad you didnt make that decision now ! :)

It was funny, i was in the ONLY raid guild testing the end game content and it was annoying me that no other guild even attempted to form up and test the content with us.

Anyway as soon as i hit max level and was still wearing a blue chest from level 20, i knew something was massively wrong.

when WoW first started it wasnt no where near as polished or stable as it is now and for some reason you cant comprehend that.

Because i NEVER experienced any of these issues. My first server was Earthen Ring.

The stuff your refering too is Blizzards "6 servers will be enough" launch idea and 5 million people cramming into 6 servers, that will cause the issues your talking about. Can you blame Blizzard for making too few servers, sure, but when you look back, they had no idea how big the game would get, so its understandable at why the launch was messy.

No offence mate, but you will NEVER win me over to play War.

But that doesnt mean you have to ney say about other mmos comparing contantly with WoW otherwise you will never enjoy any other games on the market.

Of course i can. WoW is my benchmark, if its not better then it, why change?

When did i ever imply im trying to win you over to war ? merely just making an opinion and stating a few facts along the way.

you last remark is kinda silly though, I mean personally I find Half life 2 one of the best fps games I have played loved every aspec of the game, Doesnt mean i compare every other fps game to it. It also means i dont restrict myself to that one game. (Btw this is just an expression :) )
