ASUS Striker II Extreme Or EVGA nForce Ultra???

Is there a large difference in the ASUS board design compared to Evgas? Any stand out points that make one drastically better than the other? I'm currently running with the Evga for the supposedly far superior support if it's just things like heatsinks which are different (Don't intend on running WC and I can get the Evga cheaper)

Has anyone water cooled using the NB fusion block on the S2E? I've heard some stories about leaking etc.

See my post above - it won't leak if its fitted correctly ;)

does the board come with any watercooling accessories like barbs or clamps, or do those have to be purchased seperately?

Comes with a full package of jubilee clips, barbs and adaptors to fit all sizes :D

It's a known issue that the NB waterblock can leak, there's quite a high failure rate. I think this applies to all the Asus MBs with that type of block.

And I'm now running my quad core on a Maximus Extreme at 4.1GHz.

Passively. :D

Can't understand the slagging the Nforce chipsets get - heard the same about the original Striker 680i - helped lots of people on here to clock it. Everyone seems so impatient and quick to criticise. It seems these days that people just want to hit a button and magically attain 4GHz. The point being, 680i & 790i are a doddle to OC, if you know what you are doing :)

Hi
I have the Asus striker 2 extreme with latest bios and Ocz ram see sig and no problems. The trouble is people overclock the cr@p out of there gear then moan like hell when things go wrong and blame the mb/ram what ever.

Other than for SLi, why on earth did you spend £200+ on a motherboard aimed at heavy overclocking when a £60 Abit FP-IN9 would do the same job of your Q6600 @ 3.1GHz? The board you have bought is expensive due to its dedicated power circuitry to the CPU and RAM, Higher quality VRMs and solid state Caps, solely for the purpose of clocking the nuts off everything in sight at simply stupid levels. :D

lol, I know what I'm doing.

You can keep your head in the sand if you want but the 680i boards were plagued with tons of faults that lost Nvidia most of their support from the enthusiast overclocking community. If it wasn't for SLI they wouldn't touch these boards with a bargepole now as Nvidia's MB reputation is in tatters now.

790i isn't as bad as the 680i, but to release it with exactly the same type of data corruption that occured on the 680i boards is outrageous. It just appears to me that Nvidia QA control is non-existant and these sort of things should have been picked up.

I dealt with hundreds of 680i problems when they first launched and solved 95% of them. Issues were usually down to incorrect memory speed/ voltage, NB voltage with 4 RAM slots filled, poor case cooling or incompatible RAM.

3 Weeks before 680i launched, I was sent this from Ravi, one of Nvidias top tech bods:

Pre-launch Set up and OC'ing guide for system builders :D

Got a similar guides for the 790i?

Also when you say the fusion block won't leak if set up correctly have you got any specific advice?

My board is Rev 1.02, but don't know where that stands on the evolutionary ladder.

I was very close to going for the 750i or 790i F.T.W. but now that SLI's going to be natively supported on X58 I think i'll wait and play with a Nehalem setup.

Same as any water cooling venture mate - carefully - and test the loop fully before whacking it all in the case.

The top of the block does appear to be a softer metal than most blocks. Overtightening the connections would certainly cause a rupture if forced.

I'll see what I can do about the 790i guide. You having problems? Try some settings of mine if you like :)

I am running sli and have a very stable 3.375 overclock on air.And when funds allow I will be water cooling this lot.And push it further. But I bought the newest chipset MB / mem and gpu as I intend on keeping this setup for a couple years. Not every 1 can upgrade every other week. As said in another post I am overclocking it a small amount at a time running it for a few days stable before pushing it a bit more, One step at a time, 24/7 stability is what i want not to just bench it.
Any help on pushing it further is appreciated.
