Why were you late for the airport?

Okay, i'm going to be up myself for this thread, for once.

Just watching 'Airport' and a scene is showing customers angry about arriving late and missing check-in and others are ranting as all airlines overbook their flights in case people cancel.
I have never been late and i don't understand how anyone could be. If you know what time you need to check-in, how is it so difficult to know how much time to spare? For example taking into consideration travelling - car traffic, trains being delayed and so on.

Admittedly airports are huge places but there are signs everywhere plus the staff that work there. All it involves is looking up at the screen to see what counter you check-in at and then they tell you the gate.

Perhaps i'm stupidly organised/sad but why do people just not think?

Ever been late? What were your reasons? What happened? Were you dealt with and if so, how?

I'm baffled as to why people shout at the check in staff when it's their own fault for missing a flight.

EXACTLY! Thankyou Alex...it's just stupid. Some people turn up with barely a minute to spare and expect everything to be sorted for them...

Got drunk at the terminal's wetherspoons and fell asleep

Bit risky? I thought they don't allow drunk people on the plane so if they smelt alcohol on you and you couldn't walk straight, surely they'd just throw you off?

Yep, been late for a flight. Return flight from Dublin back to Blighty a few years ago now. Business trip that took longer than anticipated but I didn't want to spend any longer in Thurles than I had to. Got to the airport, tried to check in and was told flight was already preparing for take off.

Wasn't much of a problem though, as it was a business class ticket and they (Air Fungus) got me a seat on a different flight - although it was to Gatwick, iirc, rather than Heathrow.

Never missed the outward leg of a journey... yet.

You can be drunk, but not disorderly. And being drunk on a plane is not fun anyway.

Missed a flight once. I was travelling from Switzerland to somewhere on am mini backpacking trip arounnd Europe. We arrived at 5am when flight departed at 5am. Simply a case of not reading the form properly. It was no bother as we caught the next flight and didnt have to pay nay extra. Slept in the airport. Good times :D

Yeah they allow drunk people on the plane most people who are scared of flying but have no other choice than to fly do it all the time. Hell they even allow you to get slaughtered on the plane!

I seam incapable of getting a connection but that's a bit different. I've never missed the first plane, although I've come mighty close, but only on the way back.

Agree, these idiots on Airport that moan at checkin staff make me laugh. What do they expect?
"Oh sorry we didn't wait for you sir, we will bring the plane back for you to jump on".

Have never been late, always get their early. Once flying out of Bristol on a stag weekend, had a few beers in the bar, had to wolf down a burger king to try and sobar up. Only time I've been worried about missing / taken off flight!

I was once heading to Manchester airport and got stuck on the A6 in Stockport after the road was closed due to an accident, time was getting very tight and not having satnav then I didn't know an alternative route

I phoned my mate who lives locally for ideas, he is also a member of the local constabulary

He asked where I was and told me to wait there, 5 mins later I have a police escort to the airport bypassing the traffic :p

I missed a plane once, because I relied on the rail system in England to not be over an hour and a half late.

Won't be making that mistake again. It sucks when you're still sitting on the train looking at your watch and it reaches the departure time of your plane.
