Why were you late for the airport?

Done this a few times.

Once I missed the train and got a taxi instead to the airport - got stuck in traffic and a 180 euro taxi ride. Nice !
Another time , everything just went wrong - cycled home from work and got a puncture, delayed me by about half an hour - went to get Standsted express and ticket collecting machine didn't work so I missed train, got to the airport too late.
The stupidest thing was when I booked my flight for the wrong day :p landed in Amsterdam at 9 AM and the flight back was booked for 1 PM the same day , I got there the next day - luckily they let me on the flight for free which was nice :)

Glad it's not just me who's done this then, only I'd booked flights for 3 other people too and it cost us 100 Euro's each. Ooops....

Getting an early morning flight back from Dublin in order to be back at work in the afternoon, 3 airport buses didn't bother turning up, resulting in us getting to the airport 30 mins before take off. Ryanair policy is check in 45 mins before flight or you don't get on... unhelpful as usual. We managed to book another flight 3 hrs later, with Aer Lingus (sp?), costing £60 each, much nicer flight, including sandwiches and more legroom, and following an extremely nasty letter to the bus company, refunds for the 2nd flight.

The moral of the story being, never use public transport for anything, it's ***** and the subsidy money would be far better spent on making it possible for everyone to own a car.

I'm practically phobic about being late so tend to end up turning up several hours too early and having to wait for ages for check-in to even open.

This best airport experience though was flying JAL business class from Heathrow to Tokyo. Being dropped off outside Terminal 3 to sitting in the JAL lounge, (i.e. through check-in and security) = 20mins. Spent the next couple of hours eating the free food :)

A work colleague and I went for a few pints before our flight one afternoon (Heathrow to Newcastle) and ended up missing our flight about about three minutes. The queen on the gate was very helpful and booked us on a flight three hours later (no extra cost) and let us sit in the first-class lounge - unfortunately, I didn't hear him make the offer and my colleague thought he was joking :( He was still there when we got back to the counter and asked us how the first-class lounge had been..... However, the stewardess did give me a load of free booze, so that was helpful :D That was British Airways.

Only happened the once, I always like to get checked in early and relax before a flight.

We were flying from Sydney to Alice Springs and got on the train with plenty of time to spare, only for me to then realise that we were flying at 9.00am rather than 9.30am.

Australian internal fights are rather laid back affairs anyway, so we hadn't left a lot of time to spare.

The train pulled into the airport with about 20 mins to go before the plane was due to take off and we legged it across the airport, luggage in tow and arrived puffing and sweating at the counter, apologising and expecting to be told that we were too late to check-in.

In true Ozzy style, the bloke just looked at me, laughed and said, 'No drama's mate, it doesn't go for 10 minutes yet, no need to run".

I was almost missed my flight back from holiday's once. The bus that was put on came on time to pick us up at the hotel but continiued to practically drive the entire island(majorca) to pick up other people, then when we eventually got to the airport the queue was massive. Then when we got to the counter the people in front of us had a problem with their tickets which took about 20 minutes to solve. Was a photo finish to board the plane after check in. So wasnt my fault really:p

I got to Bristol literally 2 minutes too late once...
Me and my bro left Plymouth in the morning aiming to get to Bristol airport an hour before my check in opened for safety and even allowed 2 hours drive time.....but....some lorry tipped over on the M5 near Exeter spilling its load of sheep, all lanes were closed and all around Exeter was gridlocked for like 3 hours. Devon

:( were the sheep ok?

I missed a flight from Gatwick to JFK because of a delayed flight in Edinburgh. We had a 90 min connection, which would have been fine if the first flight hadn't been delayed by the same amount. We literally got there in time to see the plane take off. The worst thing was that the cabin crew promised us that they'd call ahead to Gatwick and try to get the JFK flight delayed so we could at least board, but we found out when we landed that they couldn't do that at all.

No, i've never missed a flight. In fact, i'm incredibly worried about missing things like trains and planes.

Normally, my method at an airport is to turn up approx 5-6 hours before, check in and find the gate that I need to be at. After that I will happily wander the airport, with an eagle eye on the boards just incase the gate changes.

I arrived 7 hours early at the gate in Atlanta once, just because I was so paranoid about missing my flight.

It took us 5 1/2 hours to get to Gatwick once when it normally only takes 2. M25 :(

Missed our flights and ended up going two days later but having to pay again as insurance didn't cover that. :o

I missed a Ryanair flight back from Belgium due to traffic. Got there paid £60 for a return the next day. Didn't kick up a fuss and do the whole "but I can see the aircraft there, why won't you let me on"

I was late it was my fault.

Alcohol should be banned from flights and it would be if it wasn't such a great source of profit.

I missed a flight from Palma because I turned up 12 hours late, having thought the flight was 11 pm when it was 11am.

I've missed a couple of flights with work due to cutting things fine.

I once arrived at Paris CDG 30 minutes before a flight due to traffic and the guy at the check in desk took pitty on me and had someone take me through security and then jump in a transit van and take me direct to the plane! That was good of them and quite fun.
