In an effort to create standards for PC games and increase consumer confidence, publisher Stardock and Demigod developer Gas Powered Games today unveiled a document titled "The Gamer's Bill of Rights."

The Gamer’s Bill of Rights:

  1. Gamers shall have the right to return games that don’t work with their computers for a full refund.
  2. Gamers shall have the right to demand that games be released in a finished state.
  3. Gamers shall have the right to expect meaningful updates after a game’s release.
  4. Gamers shall have the right to demand that download managers and updaters not force themselves to run or be forced to load in order to play a game.
  5. Gamers shall have the right to expect that the minimum requirements for a game will mean that the game will play adequately on that computer.
  6. Gamers shall have the right to expect that games won’t install hidden drivers or other potentially harmful software without their consent.
  7. Gamers shall have the right to re-download the latest versions of the games they own at any time.
  8. Gamers shall have the right to not be treated as potential criminals by developers or publishers.
  9. Gamers shall have the right to demand that a single-player game not force them to be connected to the Internet every time they wish to play.
  10. Gamers shall have the right that games which are installed to the hard drive shall not require a CD/DVD to remain in the drive to play.

some good ones there :)

though i hate the fact say , if you download a game (or music) that you can only download it x number of times and then you have to get a new licence / key

11. Gamers shall have the right to expect decent and well made games.
12. Gamers shall have the right to have games not treating them like idiots.
13. Gamers shall have the right to lengthy game play.

the one about cd/dvd, can't you just get a crack?
Cracks are slightly different in that it requires you to make a modification to your game which is dodgy legal ground (from the reverse engineer's point of view :)). I don't want to rely on someone else to crack my game every time a new version comes out - and besides what do you do for online play with an RTS like C&C Generals, for instance?

I disagree with this one, endless problems in sight when children ask mummy to buy them Crysis ;)

Yeah i agree with that also! My friends / GF ushally asks me can i play this etc! 9/10 they cant

so if the next punter comes along and buys that game which has been returned and then sees that his cdkey is not accepted online, what happens then?

Another one I thought of is #1 directly conflicts with rule #10... which is what you're getting at.
