I think you guys with a 4870 should read this
http://en.expreview.com/2008/08/26/...ze-catalyst-for-furmark-making-it-run-slower/
Is the VRM cooling not as good as it should be?
If so I can see problems ahead.
Or maybe there is another reason, but I cant think of one atm
Read it and it does concern me that the vrm cooling is not up to furmark but that's it.
So long as my overclocked card is stable in all the games I play, which it is, then I couldn't care less about furmark tbh.
I hear what your saying Greebo.
A friend maybe going to get a gig version.
Do you think that maybe some games may make this happen?
and ATI are doing the same to there exe?
maybe but maybe not. My 4870 is performing as expected in games. For example with 16xaf, adaptive aa and 12x edge detect I am not dropping below 50fps in GRID at 1680 x 1050 whereas it used to make my 8800GTS 512mb crawl.

I've not sussed out how to make the settings I select in CCC 'stick' in GRID - I set AA and AF in CCC and in GRID set what I usually set to 8xMSAA to off - and it looked awful! Not had an ATI card before, so I'm sure it's me. I usually set CCC to 'Application Controlled'.maybe but maybe not. My 4870 is performing as expected in games. Not tried again, as 8xMSAA looks nice - but am I missing some eye candy?
Any tips are most welcome!
