Why are your eyes pointed due North sir?
Just watched that video, and it looks pretty similiar to the game I played.

While i can understand Crytek's anger over the amount of copies of Crysis that were pirated, their sales expectations were far too high for the product they released.
It was and still is only suitable for high end systems and even on these the game pushes most to their limits, This surely puts the game out of reach of your average pc user thus alienating a large percentage of the buying market.
The fact that the game leaked early, performed poorly and was not the tripple A title that everyone pre-release thought it would be had the effect of a nail in its coffin, which it has never recovered from.
I honestly believe that if Crytek had not been pushed to get the game out pre xmas last year many of these issues wouldnt have existed.
As someone who bought the game on day one and returned it on day two i always thought that Crytek should have been venting at least half of their anger at EA for not allowing the game the dev time that was required.
With the sequel not far away, I fear that EA will try to ensure a repeat of last year does not happen again in the only way publishers know how (DRM), whether this improves sales figures we will have to wait an see.
Specsavers.
Point?
The video posted looks nothing like Crysis in the final form we have now.
Maybe you bought the wrong version. Far Cry is the old game.
Just watched that video, and it looks pretty similiar to the game I played. I was playing on Dx9 in High settings. So I can imagine in Dx10 with the extra shaders with everything on Very High that it would look like that.
As for the TV, no consumer would have been at the press events so they wouldn't of seen the size of the TVs. What they would have seen was the videos, reviews, previews, screenshots before launch. There was even a playable demo, so it's not like they've tried to trick people into buying the game under a false pretense.
Out of the box the game does not look like those vids, theres plenty of compare pics floating around and the difference is pretty apparent. Dx10 mode doesnt really add much visually from what ive observed.
If you want the game to look somewhat visually like those vids then its a matter of modding it. Theres even a version of the jungle fight map someone made and while it does look somewhat like the vid the sunshafts look all wrong. Almost reminds me of walking through those bead curtains people used to have hanging on their stairways. I dunno what it is but those vids have a certain look to them ive yet to see replicated by a mod.
Crysis was shown at a load of shows where it wasn't strictly gaming press. If anything showing the game on the big screen just got the game that much more hype while at the same time masking the performance hit the higher res and settings give.
Yes there was a playable demo but crytek were adamant that the final game performed better and that the demo was based on an older build with less optomisations. Ive benched the final game with latest patch against the demo and in the flyby at least the difference is negligable.
Crytek as we know have stopped patch support, so much for these "gfx settings" that they would add in an update to make the game look even better. Best we can hope for is the warhead fixes being added to crysis in the form of an update as theyve said it might happen.

Did you want them to show off their game on a 15" CRT monitor? Of course they're going to want to show the game off in the best possible light.
Doubt its even real-time....probably pre-rendered from game engine with added eye candy - not really hard to do.

As i said that was their whole reason, masking the low performance of higher res's on a big screen with a low res input. Ive seen plenty of game devs showing games on 24 or 30" screens, crytek obviously couldnt do that as 1024x768 on either of those would look like crap.
Some people are adamant that its something they put together for e3, others have been saying cgi etc. Crytek as far as im aware havn't commented on those vids.
That being said those vids were the real WOW factor more so than any others, people seen those and jaws hit floors. Would have been nice if it was actually included![]()
