Just got caught doing '60' in a 30

Where have I ever 'justified' speeding? Legally speaking it is never justified and anyone caught doing it should take their punishment. That doesn't mean you can't understand why many people do it and it doesn't mean you cant make objective judgements on the relative safety of doing it in certain circumstances.


I did it because I could. I'm not trying to justify it or say its a good thing to do. Or a sensible thing to do.

Since when is it so black and white? Why 'refuse to understand'? Why not try and understand? Not all roads are created equal. Unfortunately, all 30 zones appear to be judged as if they are.

Are you suggesting there is rationality and objectivity involved in local council speed limit setting policy?

Of all the peoples attitudes to speeding it is mine which should frighten you the least - I rarely speed significantly, if ever. Almost all my long distance motorway trips take place AT the speed limit, unlike 70% of the British public. Infact the only time I tend to disregard whatever limit is in force and press on at my own pace is on a cross-country journey on NSL A roads. Yet this attitude worries you? How bizarre.
 
So to conclude, everyone speeds but not everyone wants to admit to it whilst some do and those that don't want to admit it have a go at those who to admit to it.

Where I live, there is 2 roads out that are NSL and one is very bendy and short, I have driven on it at 60 mph but its was crazy too many bends and its used by a hafulkage frim that use massive rubble trucks and they bomb down it at a fair speed and are always on your sside of the road.

The other has a NSL then 30 then NSL because of a village, the road into town is a long wide road I did 40 on it once when I was late for work and got pulled and let off since then I have slowed down I will do about 35 mph, I dont care if someone is up my back side pushing to do 40 I will not speed up infact I will slow down to wind them up more.
 
The police will let you off if they have no speed recorded for you. About ten or so years ago I had just got my RS turbo and it was about 1.30 am. There are some long straight roads on the way home so I thought I would see what the car would do. I did'nt think anything was amiss untill i saw a police astra coming down a side road, when he pulled out behind me the blues etc went on so I pulled over. By the time I had let the turbo spinn down and stopped the engine I had a dog van in front of me an astra behind me and a senator a the side of me, the dog van's officers got out first and asked if i knew why I had been stopped, I told him I had a good idea, he replied "well I was doing 90 and you were leaving me standing", at that piont I thought bye bye license but he then told me that they would let me off the speeding charge but if the senator had managed to get behind me they would be taking my license. After that they checked the vehicle, breathilised me and told me to produce my docs in 7 days. Looking back I think I got off lightly.

Just think about it. You know nothing about the person behind you. They could be a normal rational person, a psychopath, a criminal, in a desperate situation - anything.

This all used to be NSL, then it was reduced to 50, now it is 30. People used to do 60-70 through it when it as NSL, they still do 60-70 through it now that its a 30. Thats a prime example of one retarded 30, where people who do 30 as this thread would have me believe will be overtaken by lines and lines of traffic.

Why is it now a 30? Things aren't changed because there's little else to do. What's the reason?
 
Thing I don't understand is, you have 30 limits on stupid roads which could be at least a 40. Then all country roads near me which are tiny thin ass roads with many blind bends and they are NSL.

I regularly spank it down them, surely that's far more dangerous than doing 40 in a 30, which I also sometimes do. An from my experience nearly everyone drives 40 in a 30 anyway.

Hence all the 40 kills 99% and 30 kills 40% or whatever that advert was.

I also eat children.

Prob becauase someone lives at the start / end of the road that happens to be on the committe or council or something. Its a joke as we have had it around my area. We did have a 50 Road which was fine but a few years ago it was reduced to 40 MPH. Why ? Because a 14 yr old kid ran into the road after his football and got K.O'D. IM SORRY but i dont belive that to be a valid reason for a decrease in speedlimit.

In a 30, most machines are okay to speed.
We've all done it at some point yeah.
But a moped is not suitable for doing those speeds, not safe at all. They aren't built to safely do those speeds.

I've managed to get speeds of around 110 on a similar bit of road, used to be NSL, now a 40 or a 30, can't remember, I don't go down it any more. That was when I had my M5, I saw the speedo and eased off to about 70 after I realised.

I get bored going to work so sorry if my stupidity offends you.

Whats a 'ped' ?

I think hit a kid at 20 & its a 50% chance of death, 30 kills 80% & over that you deffo have to live with yourself for killing a kid!
Is it worth it!

Granted, 30 limits appear pointless sometimes but would you feel so bad & spend any time in jail for hitting someone going under the speed limit?
Is it worth breaking the speed limit for a bit of joy or to get somewhere in time?

Maybe some roads like a carriageway with no traffic/junctions etc. there would be less chance of hurting anyone else by reckless driving, but remember deliberately causing harm to oneself deserves a trip to a shrink lol.

Maybe I've done 140 on a motorway or 60 in a 30, but I'd consider my current sensible state of mind a result of maturity. Granted I like to 'punch-it' now & again, but only quickly to the speed limit or maybe slightly over in a non built-up area.

10 years ago I was told-off by a copper at the side of the road with a hairdryer for doing 43 in a 30 down a long slip road, I now understand it was a 30 because there were houses by the slip road!

I now have a Saxo VTS & sometimes wear a cap BUT I've never been caught speeding in 18years of driving! Talk about a contradiction lol.

Actually completely agree, I look after a wee pug for a mate and I won't ride it, it's the only bike i've ridden that actually scares me (including a 400bhp turbo ZX).

But still, be aware that if you ever do get done for speeding, you could end up in a whole world of pain on a derestricted moped.
