Ok, so following my previous thread regarding my sadly deceased Enermax liberty psu, Corsair seems to be the best brand to go for.. which is why the hx620 is currently in my ocuk basket, ready to order.

Just wondering though, whats the actual difference other than the modular cabling between the vx, tx and hx models?

And does anyone have any other suggestions for a new psu (budget of £80)

thanks :)

They are rebadged versions of different manufactures units with some corsair tweeks.

The interals will be different

The HX series are the modular ones made by Seasonic which are supposed to be built to higher standards than even Seasonics own, however some people slate the cables as feeling cheap.

The VX series have CWT (Channelwall Technologies) as their OEM and are good budget units.

I'm not sure who makes the TX series offhand I'm afraid.

I have the 620WHX series (modular) and had to be coaxed into buying it. I'm glad that I was. It's very quiet.

Yes, the cables do feel very cheap indeed, compared to e.g. Zalman's cables, but they so far they haven't let me down in anyway.

I bought a HX620 for my first computer build, so have nothing t compare it too, but in my opinion it is very good quality, had it for a year so far and nothing has gone wrong :) (touch wood)

Not entirely correct.
HX520/620, VX450 and TX650 are made by Seasonic, others by CWT.
Seasonic's trademark design and heatsinks should be easy to recognise. CWT's trademarks are heatshrink wrapping in about every coil and cable sleeving not reaching inside PSU.

Seasonic made have same design/components and Seasonics own PSUs... basing to some posts I once read in forum of "short of hexagonal site" difference appears to be that Corsair itself does final testing of assembled PSUs.

i have the hx 520 i have never had a problem with it. the modular cables do appear cheap, but have never failed me yet. its very quiet too.

I’ve had the HX620 for a year this August (wow it actually already been a year since my build:eek:, felt like yesterday I was unwrapping all those shiny new components:p) and its been great, had no problems (touch wood) and seems to be pretty quiet.

I love my enermax modu82+ psu.. Its a tiny bit out of your pricerange but reviews were superb, you cant hear the thing, and it doesnt even get warm..

I have the 520w modular, i love it, its super quiet, and as its modular, makes for easy cable management. the cables are top quality too.

+1. :)

Tempted to get the Corsair HX1000 now. I'd rather have too much power (in reserve) than not enough.... :p
