ooh boy she is going to hit the roof lol
i dont care tho ! lol
it wont be that bad actually
ive done all the benchmark reviews but im still abit unsure
4870 512, how does this compare to my current gts 512
and whats the diffence in performance between 4850 x fired to 1 4870 ?

She will hit the roof for spending less then £200? jeesh she needs to get a grip. I bet she spends ten times that a year of makeup :D

But just remember you dont NEED a new gfx card, but she does NEED a new handbag... ALWAYS

does x fire 4850 need 1 power cable each or 2 each like the 4870
gamming at 1920 * 1200, whats best 4850 x 2 or 80 x 1

tbh she is pretty good with me, i will just tell her the nvidia broke and we need a new card otherwise she womt be able to use hatebook

1920x1200 id just get a single 4870, handles that res with ease, its even better than the GTX 280 at that res with lots of AA, plus its cheaper than 2x 4850's (which will require 2x 6x Pin's like the 4870, 1x per card) and whoops your GTS 512mb.

Don't meant to jump in and take over your thread, i gota 4850 atm and gaming at 1920x1200 would i honestly notice the difference with a 4870 ?

OP get the 4870 which leaves the possibility for crossfire later too if req.

Depends which games you play and at what res.
Though the 4870X2 would definitely be a big improvement.

she isnt that bad actually, i will just say
" ive made the change "
she will look at me and say
" i knew it, i knew it, your gay ! "
i will say
" no, nvidia to ati, i cant belive you thought i was gay "
she will feel bad, i have a new card no questions asked

yea have same problem upgrading but stoped at this time as gts g92 plays anything i play and skip 4000 serries hopefully 5000 serries will be even more better then 4870 and wow me with a difference when i will get it. i doubt changing from gts g92 to 4870 u will see much different to wow you

Now c'mon Loadsa that's simply misleading!

In a few situations the 4870 may be faster with very high levels of AA but in the main the 280 is the faster card for sure, and please don't copy and paste the '70quid difference, not worth it, yada yada' it's getting quite tiresome.

Simple fact is at 1920 x 1080/1200 the 280 is faster in almost any situation and whether or not that 10-20%-ish advantage in performance is worth the extra is down to the individual concerned to be honest. :)

Anyway lol, to the OP! At that res I would either get a 4870, GTX280 or a 4870X2 depending on your cashflow and driver preferences.

Don't know if the OP still wants to know about how the 4850 xf compares to the 4870, but I am running at 1680 x 1050, and while I have not tested a huge range of games I have decided to stick with the xfired 4850's.

In Assassins Creed, its the difference between the 4870 dropping to mid 20's, and the 4850's not dropping lower than mid 30 fps. The game is just all round smoother.

In Crysis, the 4850's do perform a bit better, though cause crysis runs the way it does, not a whole lot better.

More and more games shoudl scale better as they get released, and also I just wanted as much grunt as I could possibly get, and the 4850's are the most powerful solution available to me without changing cases or power supplies.

hmmm, this is a very hard decission
4870 or 50 cf
what psu are you looking at for 4850 cf
i have a 580 psu and have been told that 4870 will run fine off this,

4850 will run fine on that. I am using a corsair HX620 whcih allows me to OC my Q6600 to 3.2GHz and runs the 4850's in crossfire, even with a mild OC, but my 4850's don't like being oced.

The 4850's at stock still outrun the OCed 4870 though. Would have considered crossfire 4870 but not sure if my PSU could handle it, but it also doesn't have enough PCI-E connectors...

I would say only bother with the 4850's in xfire if they are no more than £50 more expensive than a 4870.
