(E46) M3 owners - day to day mileage?

What would you expect as an average if driven really sedately on long runs every day?

I can fully appreciate what the fuel consumption is likely to be around town, and when being driven spiritedly on a Sunday afternoon, but what realistically do they return sat 70-80mph all day on a motorway and carefully around large trunk routes with not much throttle? Talking the same type of use from which the 330ci E46 would return low to mid 30's.

Based on roughly 100,000 miles in 2 of them from new over 3 years ish. Both my consumption computers ended up reading 24.3mpg so I think thats a good indication.
 
As I said it came from the MPG computer. I tended not to keep resetting it so I think its interesting that both my M3's sat at that over time. Mixture of driving though I tended not to do many short journies or town driving.
 
according to my trip comp, on a longish run doing a fairly constant 70-80mph with the odd town village in between i can get 28-29mpg

Couldn't have asked for a better sample with such a huge mileage to base that over, thanks :) 100k over 3 years is a perfect mileage cycle for me to compare to, too.

Seems to tally with Housemaster's long term figure then, perfect.
 
my average sits at 26.4mpg on the OBC but I think this reads about 0.5-1 mpg high

my driving is mainly motorway stuff though

70-80 steady returns about 30-31mpg
 
CSL gets around 14-15 mpg around town, mid 20's on motorway. maybe late 20's - 30ish if sat cruising at 70-80mph. :)
 
Sorry to butt in, but how much does a tank cost to fill up/how many litres do you fill up with from empty, and how many miles do you get from an average tank of fuel?

The capacity is 16 gallons, thats what...400 miles given a 25 average.
 
Hi there

You guys must be driving your M3's like old people....

In the CSL I averaged 18-19MPG.

On a run keeping speeds below 3 figures it could manage 28-30MPG, but most of my driving was dual carriage ways and country roads hence why I averaged 18-19mpg.

On track I got around 7-9MPG. :D

yep, mine is likely to improve as my main bit of motorway I use is now a 50mph specs controlled area for the next 2+ years :mad:
