Goldring Available From OcUK!!!

Are these actually worth buying? I've been looking at them and aparently they lack decent build quality, it's the only factor putting me off them.

I have a pair, after 5 months ish the glue didn't hold them together so I just dabbed some fresh superglue on the bits that had come apart and they are lik new again. Excellent little earphones for the price though.

Any ideas on when these will be popping in? I'm interested in getting the 150s but it still says pre-order on the whole range.

Is royal mail 1st class (what we get free for 250+ posts on the forum) any more reliable than city links next day? My email says the are arriving at about 1:30 but i dont want to be too late or way too early for them to come.

Ordered some DR150s this morning, forgot all about it being a bank holiday so I need to wait until Wednesday to try them out :o

Has anyone owning dr150's taken out the bit of foam that stops you seeing the drivers through the grill ?

I just tried it after reading it can lead to quite a sound improvement....and they really werent kidding, really opens up the soundstage, and makes for an even more enjoyable listening experience.

Its only held on by little bits of tape aswell, really worth it if you dont mind breaking the waranty (i'm assuming, but seeing as its held inplace by tape there's not much to stop you putting it back anyway).

Yea but then I read the soundstage opens up after a while anyway and some people put their cloth back in.

Funny. Just what I was starting to say about the DR100s

Well burn in seems to be doing something. The sibilance is less obvious now and the sound stage has changed a little. It was very immediate when I got them, giving an 'in head' sort of soundstage. It's a little different now: still close but low and high frequencies are giving a little sensation of space. The mid range is still firmly 'in head' though.

Hopefully this is part of the 'opening up' process that some people refer to and they'll continue to get better with use.

Seen quite a few people on Head-Fi saying they wish they hadn't done the cloth mod for the DR150s and trying putting the cloth back in. Apparrently better to let the things take their natural course - it give a more natural sounding soundstage.

Intresting, well i've had them for a couple of weeks now, and the sound had improved quite a bit. But if the sound stage opens up too much ill just put the cloth back in. Its riddiculous how it was taped in anyway.

Really so they aren't as good as your £200 + cost of amp 650's ?

Well, I've had a pair of DR50s arrive too. Quite impressive sound straight out of the box. A little clean and clinical, a little sibilant but pleasant and clear sounding.

Just done a quick comparison with my DR100s (which have had a fair bit of breaking in now). Not a lot in it, which is unsurprising considering they use the same drivers. Bass is fuller on the DR100s, which is what you'd expect from the specs.

I'd happily use either for Tchaikovsky where the clean, clear sound of the DR50s perhaps even gave them an edge. DR100s for NIN though. No contest.

Anyone want to lend me some DR150s so I can do a 3 way comparison?:D;)

Edit: Will see if a bit of burn in changes the DR50s sound after a few days too.

If there's one thing I'd like to change about these Goldrings its the EVIL VULCAN HEAD SQUEEZE OF DEATH, particularly if, like me, you have a big head.

Nice to have got that off my chest...
