GTX280 or 4870 512 or 1gb?

How do they surpass 1200 DDR5 performance ?

Memory overclock doesn't really effect performance much at all, most of the performance increase from overclocking comes from the core/shader overclock, most GTX260's seem to reach around 2100-2300 which isn't bad with the 448bit bus.

If its a straight swap go for it.

However new the difference in price does not reflect the performance increase.

ATI digital vibrance is called: AVIVO Colour Correction. Set it to 200 and its give a big boost to the vibrancy (much more so that I remember my old 8800GTX doing on its max 100 setting).

So GTX280 or 4870 512 or 1gb? where do i go from here as im none the wiser.
apart from the flame war i have seen some great posts.
Asgard had both cards a 4870 and a gtx280 he didn't have a great time with the gtx280 - but he did have a faulty one. it would seem that he would stick with the 4870 over any card out there right now.
I would get a 4870 as much cheaper than GTX280 and if it does not work out then you will not lose much money but if you get a GTX280 and have to sell it then you will lose more money as it costs more to begin with (both cars will lose around 10-15% once 2nd hand). Personally I have not had any problems with a 4870, the drivers are rock solid stable, no issues in any games either. They do run hot by default but thats not an issue to avoid it as the GTX280 is even hotter and needs more power. At least the 4870 is not as obsolete as a GTX280 which lacks DX10.1. TBH unless you game @ 1920x1200 anyway a 4850 would be enough for now and you can always add another for crossfire to give more FPS later.

Yes, I can't believe all those amazing DX10.1 games I'm missing out on..

cynic:D

how important is directx 10 over directx 10.1 anyway? i cant believe that it is that great a deal....yes ceratin games did scale better under 10.1. but with directx 11 being backward compatable i cant see if there is any bonus to had.

Yeah m8 200 makes it look really sweet!

Beauty is that you can adjust the settings for DVD/Bluray playback as well without affecting the desktop by going into the Avivo Video Colour settings secton.

For games that will support it around 20% faster performance as it bypasses a render stage.
