Mrsyoustolemyname and I recently moved in to a new apartment that had a bit of a tobaco odour when we viewed it. Foolishly we thought a few days with the windows open would sort it out.

How wrong we were. Three weeks of us living here and the place still mings of smoke and even a bit of BO in places

Short of shampooing all the carpets (which was already done on us moving in!) any suggestions for getting rid of the pong?

We have read some wild and wacky tips such as bowls of vinegar in the rooms, wash the walls with vinegar which I am not convinced by as I don't wan't my place smelling like a chippy instead!

Oh, and we have already tried mustard :)

thanks in advance!

Oust... ooost... whatever it's called seems to work. But it stinks itself.

Yeah we got some of that but the chemical odour it left behind was vile.

Neutradol and fabreeze seem the way to go maybe. It was totally unfurnished apart from carpets.

The only other explanation we can think of is someone in the apartment above/next door is a smoker and it is seeping through the extractor vents in the bathroom somehow...

Sounds like a classy joint.

To be honest mate, it is apart from this pong. We've downsized a little but gained ensuite bathroom and a fully fitted kitchen. Place is only 4 yrs old and 400m from the phone exchange so I get a 24Mb line with Be* :D

Thankfully I work away all week, just the missus has to suffer the odours lol

Not to go too OT but crikey! 24mb....my ISP keeps capping me on my "unlimited" 8mb connection because I'm in the 100g's per month....24mb is 12 gigs per hour....do you have limits with that? You could suck the whole internet into your computer with that.

Nope, totally unlimited.

Uptime: 1 day, 5:23:36
Modulation: G.992.5 Annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,321 / 24,574
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 355.44 / 3.38

Did quite a bit of browsing today ;)

20 a month with email addresses or 18 without. Google Bethere.

All depends on your distance to the exchange, I only got 10mb at the last place.

So back on topic before this gets moved to the internet forum, any ideas for smoke and BO zapping?

The Febreeze air freshener is great (Morning Dew is the nicest). It actually does a decent job of removing smells and not just covering them up. Absolutely blast your flat a few times before you go out.

I was sadly happy when it was released here. I had been buying it in Canada for a couple years before I moved here.
