Ramadan Mubarak

If I was muslim i'd cheat and sleep during light hours and be awake at night (great if you don't have a job).

Couldn't bare not eating food for a period of 16 hours is it?

I fasted for 3 days once. Your hunger diminishes greatly after the first day. One thing I learned from fasting is that probably 60-70% of the food you put in your body you don't really need. You eat more though because a lot of food, especialy fast food/junk food is addictive.

I also know other Muslims that cheat and work nights and sleep during the day, and others that just eat in private so none of their family know.

Allong time ago I had a weekend job at mcdonalds and there was a young (about 18) muslim guy on the ramadan fast. He was caught eating a burger in the toilets and got fired by the manager because he was suppose to be fasting. Thing is the manager who fired him wasn't even muslim.

Lol, how can he be fired for breaking his fast?

Actually, i've just had a brainwave.

Muslims need to fast because can you imagine the overwhelming stench of curry if for at least 40 days they didn't hold off a bit !!!

Yes I am serious. If junk food wasn't addictive people wouldn't keep eating it and everyone would eat healthy.

Sorry? What has that got to do with it? You said that 60 - 70% of the food you eat you don't need, and that you only consume that excess percentage because it's addictive.

Assuming you're talking about the average consumption for the average adult, then you're wrong. You wouldn't be able to cut your intake by 60 - 70% and remain healthy and a decent weight. It's just out of the question. You do need it.

The reason they do not eat pork is because their ideology is flawed :p

The reason muslims don't eat pork is because of legacy. At the times of the Prophet there were no fridges to keep meat fresh and cooking apparatus for most people was very primitive. In fact a lot of people eat meat raw. Now we all know that prok can be deadly if it's not cooked properly and infect you with all sort of parasites.

Now 800 years ago and you have a tribe who are very hungry, you couldn't say "don't eat that pork it can make you ill" as they would still eat it because there hunger would get the better of them.

Instead you instill into them that if they eat that pork they goto hell for eternity and they would be a lot more likely not to eat it.

Unless you over eat in the first place. Fasting doesn't really sound like a good idea, especially if you physical work all day in hot enviroment. It's another thing if you stay in bed in day, not using as much energy as don't require as much water.

I agree with Kittencakes, I help people with fitness\diet regimes, and I have to say those stats seem way off Magick, Unless you can back them up, I wouldnt spout Random facts.

Depends on your diet. Most of the stuff people put in there body isn't needed. Why do you think there's so much obesity these days.

Going to attempt it again, don't know how well i will do though. Its sooo annoying not eating, drinking and been able to brush your teeth in the day resulting in some lovely smelling breath! :o

I once went to the middle east during ramadan. I've never been so thirsty in my life. Never again i'm afraid.
