No Gears of War 2 on PC

Really wouldn't surprise me.
I went in the flagship Oxford Street store of one of the UKs largest high street video games stores a few days ago; I personally haven't bought a PC Game in years and it really didn't surprise me to see that the PC Game section was a tiny little section in the back corner.

It's because of digital distribution.

PC sales are massive in that area.

After the hissy fit epic had due to poor UT3 sales i doubt they personally will bother porting it over to the PC... wouldn't be surprised if they outsourced it though.

Yeah UT3 sucked compared to the past games, not surprised it sold so bad TBH.

I doubt it'll come out for pc.

Firstly because of the really awful sales that Gears 1 had for the PC

Secondly because of the problems they had on release (the stuttering and crashing) which needed numerous updates to fix them - that was probably a reeeeal pita especially considering they will have been working on gears 2 at the time!

Some people are forgetting you could still play online over Live on PCs even with the subscription model, I seriously doubt sales of the first game were affected just because it lower than usual amount of dedicated servers. PC Live Gold becoming free really aren't going to make a difference.

Yeah, plus with LIVE on PC being free now, I see more sales of Geasr2 than Gears1. A lot of people do not want to pay to play on consoles so now the PC equivalent is free i suspect more sales of online Games for Windows titles. (Which I am sure is the motivation for making it free recently).

Live for windows has been a complete bomb ever since they launched it with the mighty [sarcasm] halo 2. Nobody is interested in it and most PC gamers just seem to find it annoying.

i can see Live for windows being wrapped up within the next year. Has it not only had like 3 games released on it so far?

Yeah Games for Windows Live is pretty much pointless, I mean PC games (half decent ones) have always had fairly good multiplayer clients and with the likes of Steam about it's not really needed.

Though, it's pretty cool to link your achievements from PC games with your 360 Gamertag, only about 4 games use this though.

Edit: HOWEVER, Games for Windows is good so don't get the two mixed up!

This is Games for Windows

Games which wish to be included in the Games for Windows platform must meet certain requirements regulated by Microsoft. These include,[3] but are not limited to:

* An "Easy Install" option that installs the title on your PC in the fewest possible steps and mouse clicks
* Compatibility with the Windows Vista Games Explorer (see below)
* Installs and runs properly on x64 versions of Windows Vista and is compatible with 64-bit processors (though the game itself can be 32-bit)
* Supports normal and widescreen resolutions, such as 4:3 aspect ratio (800 x 600, 1024 x 768), 16:9 aspect ratio (1280 x 720), and 16:10 aspect ratio (1152 x 720, 1280 x 800)
* Launching from Media Center (Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Ultimate have Media Center)

Bit of a shame to be honest. Gears Of War was absolutely wasted on console with its atrocious, fiddly joypad controls.

The mouse and keyboard enable PC port was a ten fold improvement so I'm pretty disappointed at this news.

Are you kidding me? Fiddly?

You are going to need to explain this.

Still reckon it'll hit the PC. Although CliffyB's relationship with MS has been stained through various issues, one of which was marketplace $ related.

cliffy B is a big emo crybaby
go ahead cliffy - release your game on 360 only
then release it on pc when you want to generate a bit more revenue in a years time

The PC version was outsourced to some Polish developer who could not even get the save system working properly so for some that meant you lost all your saves and no way to get them back because of Games For Windows Live (Gold level is free now for PC).

I reckon when he says no GOW2 PC he means no GOW2 in 2008!!

wtf?

I thought Gears of War PC was by Epic on a new version of the engine? :|

I still don't know where I can even get Windows Live

Its built into vista and i think XP had a hidden update or sommat along those lines. Basically, it's there, you just won't see it until you launch a games for windows live game.

Oh and, the gears of war port was done by epic themselves.

LOL @ CliffyB's wiki entry:

wikipedia said:
CliffyB has also recently announced a new perfume line called 'Traitor', and is rumored to be released only for people with an Xbox 360

There are clearly some bitter PC fanboys out there :D

People Can Fly did the PC port. Epic have now bought them it seems they must be blind as the PC version still contains show stopping bugs like the save games going missing which forced a lot of people to play the game from scratch again as no way to use someone elses save games easily. This happened to me after reaching the last boss battle!!

Hmm that's strange, all the videos I saw about it were done by CliffyB going on about how well it ran and looked.

Though to be fair he is right, it looked and ran great for me, the stuttering was fixed in one of the config files.
