Having taken our VVC Metro trackday car to numerous circuits around the UK, and indeed Europe, and having embarassed considerably more expensive equipment everywhere we went, one common theme emerged from conversations we had with other trackday goers. Why not produce a road going version. Well, we have, and here it is. The Talon Metro 100R.

The car is now built around the later model Rover 100 as opposed to the Rover Metro used on our prototype trackday car. The wheels have been increased from the original 13" up to 14" to allow for a bigger brake conversion (optional extra) and some sensible rubber. We now have a 160BHP option to compensate for the extra weight gained by leaving the interior intact, and the car is an absolute riot to drive. You just can't help but to get out of it with a massive grin on your face. It simply shouldn't be that much fun to drive ... but it is!

Clearly we couldn't produce a 140MPH Metro without paying some attention to the handling, so we have added custom made front and rear anti-rollbars and modified the front castor angle to improve the high speed stability. General stability and roll stiffness has been improved by individualising the hydragas units and modifying the hydragas cones. The car now tracks perfectly at top speed, is stable under braking, and corners like it's on rails. You really do forget you're driving a Metro. It's that good, but don't take our word for it, give us a ring and book a test drive. Find out for yourself!

Just up the road, should I take one for a test drive? :p

Go on then, I'll bite - why should they be joking?

I don't know either. Even though it's "only" a Metro, it's a very quick Metro which has received a lot of praise as a track car in various kit car mags.

The price is obvioulsy significantly more than you could do a conversion for yourself, but many people simply can't and happy to pay the money.

After having a blast in my mates metro with a 1.8 VVC transplanted, I can see the appeal. His was basically running 1.1 everything, bar the engine and it was stripped. So it was the 'worst' case scenario with regards to handling, braking etc. However it was ridiculously fast and real good fun.

The price is pretty damn expensive and from what it looks like they've not done that much tangible to it. I don't doubt it'll be pretty good fun, but a better buy than an MX5? Or dare I say it only a couple of grand off tatty S1 Elise prices...

at the end of the day its still a metro, when you walk to the car park you will check nervously for any mick taking people and then you will be asked how much you paid for it and people will be in hysterics

Yes, because I always ask people in car parks how much their car cost....

sorry if my post confused you

Actually, it didn't. Do you mean that I somehow managed to misinterpret it?

people you know will ask you how much.

Ah, I see. Well now, you didn't really make that desperately clear did you? You said:

How am I supposed to get that you mean people you know from that? You simply said "people". I don't have pointed ears, so I'm unable to read minds - maybe you should think about wording your posts rather more clearly before accusing people of being confused by your vague language :)

There was one in the community a few months ago (think the guy sold it now) but it was stripped out internally, yet wore steel wheels and had a standard (looking) exhaust.

I think it was a supercharged 1.8 though, so not exactly standard under the bonnet :D

Will they really? How nice.

It is expensive for what you get IMO, but then again you are probably paying quite a big chunk for labour and their profit margin which isn't something I'd do.

Apart from that I'm fairly sure even a 1.8 MX5 would struggle to keep up with a well sorted Metro. 160bhp in an 830kg car is also a significantly better power/weight than a standard 118bhp S1 Elise (193 vs 164 bhp/ton), though it's more likely to win at the pub bar in this case :D. I'd personally take an Elise any day of the week, but for 2k more than the Talon Metro it's going to be an utter dog that will need a a big pile of money spent on it.
