I do realise..
edit: You saying that does make me nervous though..
as I understand it from the classic Ford boys anyway

The 1.8 Duratec is not simply a renamed Zetec at all. Zetec engines have cambelts whereas the 1.8 Duratec in the Mk3 is chain driven. They are different engines. Zetec engines are very cheap because they are everywhere - Duratec's are a tad harder to find which will mean the price will differ.
Old engines that they deal with are a lot more basic
That's not what he was getting at. The classic Ford guys use modern Zetec and Duratec engines in old cars.
I am sure with time and patience anyone could do it, but you have to ask yourself what car maintenance have you done before?
Basically i would imagine you need a donor duratec engine which you will not get for £500 unless its off ebay, or you buy another mondeo and take it out yourself.
I'm not going to source the engine from ebay (I thought I mentioned it but I didnt) we have a family friend who deals in ford parts who thinks they could get one new for approx £500, so we will have to wait and see..
What do people think about the zetec engine he listed off the bay? That says they are brand new but surely they cannot be that price with all that is included:
"FORD FOCUS 1.8 ZETEC ENGINE, TO FIT THE FOCUS RANGE FROM 1999-2005 (THE MARK 1 FOCUS). THEY COME EQUIPPED WITH TIMING BELT, WATER PUMP, FLYWHEEL, CLUTCH, IGNITION COIL AND LEADS."
Is all this needed for a new engine? How much Ford charge for 1.6 -1.8 Zetec engines compared to that advert £550?
Michael
The advert from ebay is from a ford dealership of all people if you had a look![]()
