Ok against our will, we have excepted that an "upto" broadband service Is
currently how things are regarding our internet speed.
But I think there should be a "minimal" speed we should be getting for our
monthly payment to these ISP's.

For example I am on 10mb With Virgin Media.

At Its best I get about 8mb-9mb wich Is fine as Its an "upto" service afterall.

But at Its worst I can get 500k.

So the there should be a "minimum" service. for example: 6.5mb In my case.

Good or Bad Idea. what do you think ??

It's hardly against our will - if you want a service that guarantees a minimum speed, and gives some compensation if you don't get the speed you're contracted for, you can get that. It's called a leased line, and the fact they're so expensive is in part because of what you want.

Indeed. You have a choice between ADSL/Cable at something like £20 per month and little or no setup fee, or a 2MB leased line with guaranteed service and SLAs for circa £7000 per year plus £3000 setup cost.

People need to realise that home broadband is in actual fact a fantastic service for what you pay - way better than even businesses could get 10 years ago.

You've never had it so good!

:D

Damn kids! Get off my lawn! In my days these were all fields.

Edit for content: If ISPs took on the pricing model that you suggested then Virgin would be advertising a 6Mb service (burstable to 10Mb) for £24 a month, and you'd get the forum full of people going "wtf virgin r downgrading me "

As has already been said the service you are looking for already exists.
However you have to pay for it.
We have a leased line - well actualy we've got a 100mb connection although we are currently tiered to 20mb.
This is a 20mb/20mb connection and it is all ours - no sharing back to the ISP.

Now if an ISP could offer a "minimum" speed for the price we are used to paying (£20 - £25 per month) then great.
But there isn't a business model in existence that could support it.
