All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Last two seasons:

Rooney 41 goals. 28 assists.
Ronaldo 65 goals. 28 assists.
Berbatov 46 goals. 29 assists.
Tevez 26 goals. 14 assists.

Can't help but be a bit excited :D Just need Carrick and Ronaldo back fit and we'll be sorted.

gutted we couldn't sign anyone, pathetic actually .....stevie wonder can see the holes.

it's pretty obvious there is just no funds available, i don't believe for a second they couldn't find a player of higher calibre than denilson/diaby who just aren't ready to deliver week in week out right now. wenger isn't stupid but he is obviously happy to treat the supporters that way.

robinho to m.city though ...classic :p

Its pretty obvious there are fund, but Wengers lost his balls simple as that, he's a complete moron of late whose getting worse and worse. I can't stand that after Adebayor didn't leave, for literally no reason we rewarded his trying to leave the club with a massively improved deal for a crap player. He didn't have the balls to sell him and buy someone different. Why he's stuck with Ade upfront, whose looked utter pants so far this season, with Denilson in midfield despite being the worst player on the pitch every game so far this season, because he's gone mad.

Its so clear Theo is not premiership quality on the wing, he's too small, to indecisive and doesn't do more than 2 minutes useful work in any game he plays in, so Wengers idea is to keep persisting in trying him on the wing, rather than give him a chance upfront, persists with Denilson despite being just crap as a defensive midfielder. Losing multiple players on free with no need, rewarding incredibly average players who behave badly, not spending money when he should. We have no depth this year at all, we should take bets on how many games we see Rosicky play, and RVP. ITs really good though, because we pulled out one performance against a Newcastle side notoriously bad against the top 4-6 teams last year, he decides we're fine. Unless this new midfielder injured for the next 3 months turns out to be world class we're pretty much done for the year already.

The figures our out, our turnover went up £70 odd million, our profits went up £50mil and our interest payments on the stadium are £20mil, leaving us £30mil a year better off than pre Emirates, so there is no way we can't afford more in wages/transfer fee's, this has been shown time and time again, we do have the funds. Every director, owner, shareholder all come out and tell the pratt he can spend, every year for the past 5 years they've said he can buy who he wants, and he refuses every year.

dennis wise..bought all your new players and mates with ashley

even as a sunderland supporter..you have my sympathy..lads here at work look absolutely gutted

If Wise is installed I think a few questions will be asked of Ashley.

Apparently Keegan wanted Barton to say and Ashley wanted him out, so Ashley wants one thug out and wants to make another manager.... :/

I'll try and explain the point I'm trying to make better.
When RA took over Chelsea they were far, far nearer to being one of the top sides in the country/Europe than City are now and I'm not claiming that they would be where they are now without his cash, much of it spent correctly.
What I'm saying is that for City it'll be much harder to get to where they want to be and I can't see them doing it in the next few years just by splashing money around as there's more to it than just that as the massive spending of a few other clubs prove:)

I think your wrong. The reasons being you were no nearer breaking the stranglehold on the premier league than say Everton before roman took over. Sure you where on the fringes much like say Leeds and their European season when they almost did it. Like yourselves they over spent to get there, luckily you got a big player to stop you going bust.

You had over spent for a season or two of Uefa cup football. That was about to bite hard until roman came along. Sure you had a season or so of relative success but you hadn't built anything to keep you consistently there. That consistency has come from a boat load of money. You had spent for a year or two at the top. It wasn't going to last.

Chelsea only needed those semi successful years to make themselves and interesting investment. Man City have bypassed that and gone straight to the investor.

They wont win the league in the next couple of years but the wages they pay will get them there in an incredibly fast rate. It will also bring a top drawer manager to help bring in the buys.

Take Robhino as an example, I doubt he knew anything about chelsea other than the money. Footballers are drawn to the money and they will be drawn to City. It will take time to build a team with spirit but the best players in the world will be drawn to that money and the investors have plenty of it.

I expect in the coming months a few of the top earners will start expressing a love and a boyhood following of Man city :D

Berbasulk is good whilst things are going well. His downfall is when he gets subbed/things dont go his way

I think you have a complete lack of understanding on how the club is run now (as do many other Gooners).

Firstly, in an interview last week with the BBC, Wenger stated that the clubs policy is to buy young and develop and thats it. I don't know why fans constantly go on about transfers as its been stated by the Manager that its not how the club is going to work. So we either get on with it or support someone else.

Saying that though I think that if he could have brought someone in he would have. Why wouldn't he? For whatever reason though whether it was cost or clubs not wanting to sell it didn't happen. Looking at what some have payed in the last couple of weeks for average players I'm glad we didn't.

With regards to our form. Are you saying that we are now rubbish in comparison to last season because we lost Flamini and Hleb? Our game is based on the team as a whole, not individuals. Look at last season. We finished a gnats chuff away from the title.

When you look at our players, who compares individually to the players from ManU and Chelsea? Fab maybe? RvP if he was relatively injury free? Would they swap Vidic, Terry, Lampard, Ronaldo, Tevez, Ferdinand, Carrick, Cole, Deco, Ballack, Drogba etc for anyone we have? No.

So how do we compete? We buy or mostly develop players who can fit into the collective way of playing that Wenger has created. Its why the young Carling Cup team have consistently outplayed Premiership teams over the last 2-3 seasons. Losing Hleb and Flamini is not suddenly going to have a huge impact on how we play. Nasri looks a capable replacement for Hleb and will contribute more goals so all we need is a bit of steel in CM. Song looks to be budding and could fit in there as could Diaby when fit.

The game against Newcastle wasn't anything we didn't see for 3/4 of last season before we tailed off. It wasn't a fluke performance by any stretch.

I could argue that Denilson has been pretty good in our last two games. At the weekend he was one of the top rated midfielders statistically in the Premiership. He's not the finished article by any stretch but much like Eboue, fans don't seem to come and comment much when they have good games. At 20 years of age we'd be daft to let him go now as the potential is there.

Kevin Keegan's reign at Newcastle has come to an abrupt end after meetings with club owner Mike Ashley today, according to Guardian sources.

After making his unhappiness with the club's failure to sign three or four major targets this summer known, speculation mounted about Keegan's future this morning when bookmakers stopped taking bets on whether he would be the first manager to be sacked this season. Newcastle's only transfer activity on deadline day was the signing of Spanish striker Xisco and the loan capture of midfielder Ignacio Gonzalez.

Keegan was summoned to talks with Ashley this morning and did not take training. Keegan had been embarrassed by the sale of James Milner to Aston Villa for £12m after he claimed the midfielder would not be leaving.

Dennis Wise, the club's executive director of football and a rumoured thorn in Keegan's side, has already been touted as a potential successor, though former Inter manager Roberto Mancini's name has also been mentioned.

The 57-year-old was appointed Newcastle manager for a second time on January 16 after the sacking of Sam Allardyce. He first managed the club from 1992 before going on to manage Fulham, England and Manchester City.
