i have just got round to setting up my stereo, but there is a slight problem. there is laminate flooring in my room.

i have a pair of speaker stands that i have always used with the spikes in them, always had carpeted rooms though! im not particularly keen on the idea of using them with the spikes as i dont want to damage the floor.

just wondering if there are any alternatives for raising the stands up, without causing damage to the floor.

cheers.

I've always used these to protect the floor

Yeah chop a squashball in half, drill a little hole in it, then mount a spike on it

I just put a 1p coin under each spike, couldnt tell any difference sonically, very cheap solution and solves the hole in floor problem. If your really fancy put bluetack on both sides of the coin, stick it to the spikes, and then press the whole thing to the floor.

But but...... I just bought the feet for £30 :/

At least this way if someone knocks a speaker it won't move I suppose :p

I'm a flash git and used 2p's!

I used £50 notes :p

Sounded crap though! :D

But seriously, granite chopping boards are supposed to be superb and increase sound quality to boot!

how would a granite base affect the sound coming out the speaker on top of the stand?

There is a massive thread about it over on AVForums.... The vast majority say it does make a difference, as it stops vibrations reverberating through the floor, thus tightening the bass.
