Do I need a tv license for iplayer in halls?

They already show Match of the Day "live" through their site. Although according to their definition, that's "simulcasting". It's only delayed by a few seconds.. so what's the difference between "live" and "simulcasting"?

Live is live, simuwhatever is not.

lol Ive been a student for 4 years and ive yet to come across anyone that actually pays the TV tax.
We have gotten nothing but pathetic warnings in all our student houses, they hardly ever act. Even if they do come round, dont let them in.
Its slightly different in hall though. The halls generally pre-warn everyone on the notice boards when the tv tax people make a visit.

Similar to forces barrack blocks, no real way for them to check as the rooms don't appear on the licence database unless a previous occupier has had a licence. In 10 years I've only know TV Licencing to visit a camp once, and that was only set up stalls in the entrances to the various messes to "advertise" the need for a TV licence. The only real difference is that the various orders and regualtions that we have to obide by include the need for a TV licence, of course many people simply hide their TV's prior to a block inspection.

I do have a licence nowadays as having a 42 in HDTV makes hiding it somewhat difficult. Still having to pay for the right to own a TV when 99% of the programs I watch have adverts, and I pay £55 a month for a Sky subscription still makes my blood boil.

What's even worse is that if I were to buy a house and live there on the weekends/leave and stay in the block during the week I'd have to pay for two TV Licences. Bloody outragous.

What case, they work on the assumption that everyone watches tv, they have to prove you do, which they cannot.

Ah, but you need to have a licence if you own equipment CAPABLE of receiving TV transmissions. That's their workaround for the I only use it for DVD/Console etc excuse.

I'm the same mate, the only reason i really have a a tv licence is because of 'block inspections' which happen every few months. As you say its hard to hide a big TV :o
