There's a very interesting article over at Legion Hardware about CPU scaling with ATI's 4870x2. To get the most out of these cards it would appear that you need a clocked Intel quad. Company of Heroes was a big shock with a quad outscoring a dual by a large margin yet Supreme Commander was actually just as good on a dual as on a quad. This on a game that is supposed to make use of all four cores of a quad.

If you have a AMD X2 cpu then you may as well forget a 4870x2 as they are way behind all the other cpu's tested. The Phenoms do quite well though.

Read the article here.

even if it did.... 100% cpu scaling :/

Not totally unfeasible. If ATI can do 100% scaling in COD with its xfire, I'm sure a well written program could do 100% scaling with double the cpu cores.

However, its the first I have heard that COH is fully quad core supported.

Wow! CPU bottle necking the 4870X2 even at 1920x1200 8XAA 16AF & DX10...what a beast.

I would say that AMD X2 at 3Ghz would be a minimum for this card at that res & keep things above 60fps.

The COH results seem strange to me

When i do the in game benchmark (with vsync turned off)
I get 110 maximum, 49 average and 20 minimum

this is with 2 x 4870x2's and a 3.4Ghz Q6600 (2560x1600 8xAA)

These reviews never seem to specify what the minimum frame rate it, which for me is often more important than the maximum

Looks like i should go vista now using an ati card as you gain frames. Not to bad for nvidia either only -1.6 on the frames not as bad compared with a year ago but good work to both teams vista looks much better for games these days. Nice find mate.
