SPL Season 2008/2009 thread

No, they didn't - it was a deserved victory but a flattering scoreline. Celtic bossed most of the game (even according to the commentators), so much so that, at half time Tel Butcher was worried how Rangers could cope with the Celtic dominance.

Lets keep it real.

haha 4-1 with 92 min gone at celtic park ,get a grip your making a fool of your self now :D

Without 2 uncharacteristic errors from Boruc and you would have been lucky to get away with a draw in fairness.

I mean not a lot of possession, not a lot of shots on target or chances created... there was little quality from Rangers, just a bad day at the office for a few Celtic players, I think they might have had 1 eye on the Champions League games after the draw mid-week.

Well now we kind of win our domestic league so regularly, you just aren't that important in the grand scheme of things any more.

Thinking about playing against the likes of Man Utd and Villareal in the Champions League is quite exciting for players. Obviously your lot can 100% focus on your league games this year now though and that extra focus got you your result - not an excuse, just a fact.

I'm sure when the games mean something at the end of the year, our superior quality will shine through and we will beat you again like we did last season when it counted.

Did you watch the same game as the commentators, Tel Butcher and the rest of us - doesn't sound like it. Why are you concentrating on the score after 92 minutes - the end result is the one that counts. You got the result you wanted but if it had been easy, surely it would have looked that way. Mendes goal was a scorcher and would have beaten anyone I dare say - too quick and low in the corner, impossible to stop. I still get a tingle when I watch it now.

I`m happy that you`re happy with C*ltic`s performance on Sunday. :D

Not once during the game did i feel we would lose.

We started stronger, won almost every 50/50 and you had no answer for Cousin.

I think it was easy and the scoreline flattered C*ltic. Novo had a chance to put us 5-1 up. A real chance.

Surely that has to be easy?

seems novo is under house guard after a discussion on huddleboard discussed rangers players to target. Novos address was posted along with a picture of his house

Pathetic.
I don't believe that Neil Lennon deserved his kicking, but neither do I believe the 'walking home quietly' bit. I also think Old Firm players and managers should understand that it's not a good idea to be out drinking the night of an Old Firm derby game. They SHOULD be able to, but the reality of the job is that it's not a good idea.
The Celtic fans targetting Novo in revenge for Lennon are pathetic. Just pathetic.

I cant believe the celtic fans trying to say that we were fortunate in that game, if it wasnt for a silly mistake in midfield, we wouldnt have conceded that gift of a goal to make it 1-0, we started the game better, had about 6 corners in the first half to celtics how many? then we let celtic back in it, but thats when we got our goal. I will admit at times that the passing was open and both teams played really well at times but to say we were lucky, sat back and just counter attacked would be wrong, we had much more pressure spells and for once, got something out of a game at parkhead after our last 2 unlucky trips there

second half was pretty much all rangers, i cant remember a decent chance for celtic apart from their customary 92nd minute free kick, which, for once, counted for nothing

Can you guys drop it please, we've already had one thread closed for this kind of bickering and it has been warned of again in this thread. This little debate isn't going to get either side to change their mind or admit fault so it is pointless to continue.

3 Questions.

1. Did McGeady deliberately pass to Mendes?

2. So that he could get nutmegged 10 seconds later?. :D

3. Where in Ireland is Glasgow?

4. I thought McGeady was supposed to be world class yet no one ever enquires about him.

Hutton, Cuellar, Cousin all snapped up yet Traitorbhoy is avoided like the plague. Perhaps he isn`t as good as our hooped horrors would have us beleive.

oops sorry, that was 4 questions. :p

Actually that was 3 questions... but nice try anyway :D

Everyone takes a turn at getting done...

Also, regarding the bit when you said "Perhaps he isn`t as good as our hooped horrors would have us beleive." I thought the player of the year was voted by players from all teams, not just Celtic? Maybe I'm wrong, or maybe they're all wrong, or maybe it's another conspiracy!:D:D

it's a lot quicker for me to dlete posts than it takes to type them

it's also quicker for me to suspend/ban folks than it is to keep deleting posts

I like a quiet life, one way or the other I will get one

If you want a DISCUSSION of other issues regarding Scottish football then take it to Speaker's corner and have an intelligent debate but please note I moderate that forum too

Can you explain then, why no one has bid for your "superstars"?

Well we lost Maloney and Petrov a couple of years ago and since then the board appear to be keener to get players on new contracts. Mcgeady signed a new deal in Jan 2007 and again in June this year, Boruc likewise, even Macdonald has signed an improved deal already. Combine this with Celtic's business model and it removes any requirement to sell players to balance the books or provide transfer funds. Hence, I believe, any interest from clubs is cooled before it reaches the bid stage.

Youre gonna have a hard time convincing me that the reason Boruc and McGeady are still at C*ltic is because they`ve repelled bid after bid from the premiership.

If someone wanted them bad enough, they`d be gone.

Nothing in life is surer than the fact that everyone, regardless of background or upbringing, sooner or later finds their level. If McGeady and Boruc are as good as you`d like us to beleive, they`d have been snapped up by the likes of Hull City or Stoke City at least.

I`ll bet you a cyber tenner that neither of them are in the premieship by this time next year.

Is it genuinely that hard to believe? If we look at the evidence...

1. Celtic is not is a position where players *need* to be sold. This rules the financial reason for selling a player, which leaves only sporting (and why would we want to sell our best players?) or personal reasons.

2. The players contracts are continually revised. This means two things, a) the player is well paid, and b) they will not be available on the cheap.

3. These guys are good players, possibly great players. This is not my opinion, rather the opinion of fellow professionals

There is often speculation surrounding the players but Celtic usually issue a collective 'No comment', where I've seen other clubs say things like "there has been no bids for [player x], and we want him to stay.... but everyone has a price" Which, of course, is tantamount to a hanging a For Sale sign around a players neck.

I'm not sure how else to put it across, I think I've cited enough fact to make it pretty clear. But hey, everyone is entitled to their own personal beliefs, which is a truth I hold very dear.

As my last word on the matter, I will post this:

http://www.soccernews.com/milan-keen-on-celtics-10million-goalie-artur-boruc/2091/

Milan’s general manager, Ariedo Braida, was quoted in the Daily Record saying: “Boruc is an excellent goalkeeper. He has been outstanding for the past few years for Celtic in the Champions League.

“We are going to lose Dida and maybe our No 2 ‘keeper Kalac too so we need someone new.”

One stumbling block could be the high fee of £10million that Celtic want for their 28-year-old. Braida stated: “Boruc’s valuation is high - £10 million is a lot to pay - but I cannot exclude anything and it might still be possible to sign him.

But Ancelloti said: "I wanted to bring Boruc to Milan about a year ago but now the price is too high.

"Milan cannot afford Boruc. We made some efforts but it did not happen and now I have three goalkeepers, in any case."

If AC Milan can't afford him, who can?!

Prom that I read they dont think he's worth 10 million if they thought he was they have bought him. Now with all his off field antics with the polish national team I very much doubt a club like Milan would want to buy him and his "problems".
