Audi TT RS

I didnt mean it quite like that. I'm sure it could handle it but.. why? The limited sales of the S3 show us there isn't really that many people who want a small hatchback thats THAT quick.

Depends how well the Focus RS does.

That's 280/300bhp (can't remember) and with differential technology improving to actually handle that power, Audi could release a rival with 300bhp... :D

Or this can just use the Quattro system.

Dunno how fun that would be in a small hatchback though.

An RS3 with that engine would be ridiculously quick, I can't see the appeal unless it's pretty much the same price.

The S3 is already expensive, an RS3 would be mental.

It's also worth noting that a large majority of current S3's are seeming to produce more power than claimed as stock (as seems to be the trend with the FSI engines across the VAG range), so the focus RS isn't that much of a problem.

In my opinion if the Focus RS sells well, it will be because of the badge on the back rather than how much power it has.

No it doesn't - the Focus RS is cheaper even than a 250bhp A3 3.2. Sales of a £24k Focus don't judge how well a £40k A3 would sell.

Thought the RS was £30,000? Audi could easily produce a £30,000 (R)S3 to rival it.

These types of cars are just getting more and more power. Who says it's going to stop any time soon?

Imagine the next gen Fiestas and Corsas with 250bhp.

Most S3's are just about £30k by the time you've paid a minor visit to the options list for a few must haves....

Is the S3 not already a competitor to the future RS anyway?

That engine with twin turbos, and 7 speed DSG etc probably adds atleast £5k to the product price.

Why do you keep saying this? The Focus RS is sub £25k.

Last time I checked it was £30k. Just checked for updates and it's sub £25k.

(Rubs hands with glee) :D

So....... Audi. Second hand 2009 RS3 with 300bhp anyone? :p

Im going to say that isnt what it will look like - it doesnt have the led lights on the headlights, and I think it would have. Old pic imo

5 Year old Evo where the interior trim falls off everytime you go over a speed bump or an nice Audi TT RS that would also provide comfort... i wonder hmmpf.

I suppose you could always buy rolls of duct tape, evo stick and silicone with the spare 30k.

It will be a compromise like all Audi's. They have gone down a route that is yet to make a great drivers are bar maybe the R8 and the TT RS will be just the same. They are getting better, but they have to put the engine in the right place, sort out the diff controls and get those rear wheels doing most of the work, then they will be getting somewhere. Just leaves braking, steering and chasis feel and they'll be close....

not bad if it comes in at 40k but I think its going to be more like 43 to 45k.

I assume Revo will be able to take it to 400 bhp, hmmmmm now that would be a nice car.

This has been rumoured for ages, its just a slow day in the motoring press.

First of all, it's unlikely because Porsche want exclusivity to the RS name. There's also rumours the TT mk3 will be mid-engined. Why would Porsche allow that to happen? A "mini-R8" would surely be a lot cheaper than a Boxster/Cayman and probably handle as well too if they do a good job. The only difference would be the badge and a hefty price difference.

As for the performance/cost.. what are you comparing the car to? an Evo? Lotus? Hardly like for like is it..

If the rumours are to be believed this will be a Torsen Quattro system with a longitudinal engine mount, although Haldex has got a lot better over the years.
