Traction Control - On or Off?

Go on then, put me out of my misery and tell me what car he has?

Take it your not a motors regular then? ;) :p

its a 2001 530i Sport with an M badge on the back and in immaculate condition apart from the o/s front wing which is a very very very slightly different shade of silver to the rest of the car.

Not that I spend too much time browsing here or anything...:p

It's the nearside. I regret getting those chips resprayed :(

Ah, my bad. Seriously dude, I know you know its there but on the RR day I really didn't see any difference compared to the other panels. Yes I didn't get upto it with a magnifying glass with a lamp but still, if you hadn't of said anything I wouldn't have realised what so ever :)

I have DSC (aka ESC/ESP/DTSC/VSA and a billion other acronyms) on my 330 and I leave it on all the time, unless I am expressly wishing to spin the car around or spin the wheels for whatever reason. Sometimes it comes on over certain bumps, or it'd lower the power a bit on a small piece of loose surface without really needing to, but it's a small ocassional price to pay for what is an excellent aid.

My DSC has been out of action for 6 weeks this Saturday, and I do miss it. While I haven't had the odd interventions over bumps and bad surfaces, the thought that a random spillage or serious emergency is going to leave only me in charge makes driving less enjoyable. The thought that any blowout, any lorry turning over, any emergency braking over loose surfaces, around tight bends etc. is possible going to go from being a composed near-miss to a genuinely frightening or actual crash situation is not a fun one.

DSC is a big safety net and I wouldn't turn it off in any car during normal day-to-day use - even when having fun.

When I had the 350Z in the US it only had TCS. It was pretty poor compared to DSC, but did it's job of stopping the wheels spinning by bogging the power down. I didn't and wouldn't turn that off either!

I know its there and it annoys me, I will get it resprayed again and properly blended when I get the front bumper/bonnet done next year at some point :p

I know what you mean :) - There are a couple of bits on my car that annoy me and I'm pretty sure I'm the only person that knows about them :p

For the record the DSC sensor is faulty and is now causing it to do all sorts of random stuff...so its switched off atm. Sam told me the other day the brakes came on hard on the right wheels pulling him sharply over and nearly hitting someone.

'The' DSC sensor? There are loads. I suspect he needs a new wheel speed sensor. Why he's left it 6 weeks though I've no idea.

The system fails safe so if a sensor fails the system defaults to off.

ESP on mine which I leave on all the time.

The little light is a reminder that I'm probably not driving smoothly enough...

Naturally my dad made jokes about ESP and the car knowing what was coming up ahead. Dry day and the wipers suddenly start flapping away at full speed. Few seconds later heavy rain but a clear blue sky - was a little amusing I thought :p

Never turned it off, it only kicks in if nailing it on gravel or something anyway, so i dont notice it at all.
