Been to vegas twice before and booked to go in november.

Got some spare time off work and flights are looking resonable so thinking of going on the cheap with a mate and staying in the sahara? I know its a dump but has anyone been there before, would we be better going on fremont steet?

Both of us arn't gamblers but he has never been and i fancy a scouting trip before my main one.

I'll probably get shot down for saying this, as its your mates first time, I would stay on the strip. I think the best cheap place on the strip is Imperial Palace. Only £17 per night most weekday in November. Is that cheap enough?
Two reasons for this, its right in the middle of the action, and it slightly better than Sahara.

Not stayed downtown before, but GN is the nicest, followed by 4Queens, wouldn't consider any others.

Stratosphere seems resonable aswell is that better than the sahara?

Was recommend Bills but its expensive when i want to go.

i went in december for hatton vs mayweather and stayed at the mgm grand

absolutely awesome

:)

I'd say this also. It's a great spot on the strip, and I think your mate will definitely enjoy it more.

Without a doubt if you want to do it on the cheap the Imperial Palace is the place to stop, as stated above.

The location can not be beaten for the price, also if i remember right there are loads of cheap bars around there as well casino royal do $1 a bottle.

Doing a quick expedia check imperial is coming out okay as long as i pick the right dates.

Circus Circus is coming up okay aswell, is this a dump?

thanks. looks like its the imperial palace then.

Although its tempting to go midweek and get somewhere nice for a few days then move into somewhere cheap for the weekend

Never stayed there, just visited, never again! Complete dive.

the place is a **** hole but, it has the best steak House in vegas and i mean the best, that was voted the best for 10 years running to date

its cheap, they rear there own beef that is hung for 28days and the staek i had was the best i have ever had in my life. you could litteraly cut it with a fork, like pate

going to the circus circus steak house is a MUST !!!!!

I second this the best steak I have ever had, they refused to serve my girlfriend a well done steak she had a rare one and loved it also.

Have you not thought about booking your flight and hotel separate?

If you look http://www.bookingwiz.com/default.asp#deal_drop then go to Vegas hotels at the bottom.
You can get some good deals It's $34 per night at the Imperial Palace so that's like £9 each per night. Say you are going for 10 nights that's £90 then your flights on top.

Sahara is at the far North of the Strip and is quite a way from other Hotels, nearest are Stratosphere and Circus Circus. To be fair the North end of the strip is a dump at the moment but they are building some major big resorts there that at open in a couple of years, Echelon, Fountainebleau which will breathe some life to that part of the strip.

The Sahara did have Speed - The Ride which was a walk on coaster, no queues and so much better than the evil nasty head banging coaster at NY, NY.

Downtown is OK for the Fremonet street experience but I'd always stay South or Mid strip. I was in Vegas in March and got a reasonable deal at the MGM Signature for a suite, OK a bit more upmarket but the standard rooms at MGM are very reasonable. If you don't mind kids being around the Excalibur on the South strip isn't too bad.

There is a great Las Vegas thread on MoneySavingExpert in the Travel section, you might want to check that out.

Fremont is great but if you don't gamble you will get bored quick

Strat is too far away

Sahara is some way out too and a dump

Check out Bills, also Imperial Palace ( not great but central )

Have a look at the Tuscany, about 15min walk from the Ballys/Bellagio/Caesers junction

Nugget is best as you say and by some way, I would put Main Street Station second , also check out the El Cortez ( but avoid lowest level rooms )
