Thanks to OCUK and Citylink's speedy delivery I now have my nice new corsair hx620 to replace my deceased enermax 400..

Bit worried about putting the new box in though, given that the last psu died after being installed by yours truly.

Am i worrying too much? Is it just as easy as ever to install a psu without frying it/myself/my entire computer? Or should i spend 25 quid at this computer shop down the road to get it fitted?

Thanks

Yes, did that with the last one, worked fine despite my numerous craaazy overclocks for 4 months in the current machine, and a year before that with the old machine. And then it died. :( Any special procedures i should take care to do?

dont plug it into the mains until u have everything plugged in and are ready to go and try not to build up loads of static (e.g. wool socks on carpet).

Looks like am gonna have to send my broken PC into a certain high street stored tomorrow, see 'I think my PSU is borked' thread for more info.

£69.99 for repair but with a No fix no fee policy.

... avoid poking components in motherboard and graphic card with anything, protects both from physical damage and makes it harder for ESD to happen.

And when you think you're ready double check everything... while loose connector wouldn't kill PSU connectors might melt down slightly.
Also check data cables that you didn't nugde any of them.

Bit like a friend of mine, went to a certain high street pc shop to get some ram, they offered to fit it for £14.00:eek:
You could make quite convenient hourly earnings with that "contract rate"...
At least installing PSU takes couple times more time.

Am I the only one to think that £25 is fine?

So long as that includes cable tidying the whole case that is :D

If you spend £2000 on a system, and are a little bit paranoid, get it assembled for £50 or £60.

Then, if they break anything, you get to sue their backsides off! :D

That said, Corsair PSUs are pretty robust. Just listen to common sense!

Baaad advice. Always plug the PSU into a wall socket. No need to turn the wall socket on though. It is the ground (green wire) that this provides.

THEN plug in your components to the PSU connectors.

Good ol' Corsair. Works a treat. Stripped out the old enermax, wired up the 900 routing as many cables behind the mobo as i could (loving the flat corsair cables), slotted the new box in, plenty of slack in said cables, turned it on, DISK BOOT FAILURE.

Took my boot drive out of its icy box, comps working a treat. Would be ****** off that the icy is fudged, but considering it cost me 14 quid and the other components cost about 500 collectively, i'm just happy its all working.

Thanks for the encouragements guys :)

Nice to hear you went for it.

Probably best you edit the sweary mate. Not that I care, just giving you a heads-up because it will result in a suspension :)

What he said. Or alternativly just use an anti-static wristband attached to a suitable grounding point during the whole build process. Makes things much easier if you're stuck for space near a socket. This also ensures you don't damage any components while fitting all the other parts together as well.
