whats the point downloadin 02 03 05 when i done the tests and 06 and vantage i need someone with a 4850 and allmost the same spec pc to tell me if its underperforming

Stuff the benchmarks for now. Run some games and compare with review sites. Just take off a few FPS compared to their results as they will be using a highly clocked 45nm CPU which would be faster than your CPU. Then if scoring too low in comparison would I be worried.

The 4850 I tested scored 11.5K on 06 with a Q6600 @ 3.2, vs my8800GTX OC2 with a Q6600 @3.5, which scored 14.5K
Try the 4850 in Furmark, CPU involvement minimal, and watch it keep pace with a GTX280 (no, really, it does.....and I BOUGHT a 280, so no reason to fib about it).

As several people have already said, it's your CPU. That's a pretty low end C2D, and on an enthusiast forum like this you won't find many people who've got that particular combination.

At 1280x1024 there will be a bottleneck restraining the full power of the card with 3.1Ghz although not loads. Please remember it's only one 4850 :p.

At 1600x1200 and above it's perfectly fine and I'm running a 4870 (need to change sig) with nearly the same CPU with 100Mhz faster overclock. I have a resolution of 2048x1536 and even at 1600x1200, my 4870 is dominating over my 8800GTX all the way up the resolutions. So a low end CPU @ 3.2Ghz isn't a terrible thing, or isn't holding my gaming back by any way at all ;). At the resolutions I game at, I'd only see a few FPS gains if even that with the E8400 @ 4Ghz.
