iRacing release price details

ive gone from 3.86 to 3.43 in 3 races :( i just cant find my groove on LRP today, very depressing, although i finished on average 3-4 in the races lol just kept putting the car in the dirt.
It hurts doesn't hit....I hate that feeling of slowly drifting off the track (esp T1 LRP) having your heart sink as SR takes another hit.

It's worse when its not your fault mind, just finished my last race of the evening and taken about 15 point hit on my SR, had cracking start from 4th to 1st, next lap round 2nd place pulls a move from miles back at T1, he was never going to slow it down, he could have carried straight on and miss me, but no he has to take me out as well.

I really think it should be like in real life and if you get rear ended you don't get any points, I'm yet to go up the back of anyone so I can;t quite workout how someone manages to do it to me every other race.

Just had a cracking race at LRP, braking into the right hander before the hill on the last lap, small lock and bang! My front right tyre burst!! Didn't even know that could happen! Thank god it was right handers to the finish so I held on.

Gotta stop locking the front right going into T1, can't have that happening again.

nice, I'd heard it could happen but never had it myself, and I'm quite often locking one or more wheels going into the first corner (at both laguna and lime rock),

race consistancy with the skippy still eludes me, made less errors today ('only' 11 incidents!), mostly just due to stupidity,

Think a lot of it is down to not knowing the car overly well (especially on cold tyres), whilst with the solstice I could get away with a lot as i'd driven it so much (well, towards the end of the second week at least :p)

I'll be finding out for myself...... just downloading the skippy now, can't wait to take it out :D

I have to say this sim just gets better and better, really feel like i'm finding my feet now (just did a 1:03.8 at LRP) it's just so rewarding.

damn, didn't take you too long to get quicker than me then, my best is a 1:03.962 (and that is my only lap sub 1:04 :p)

Congrats on getting to >4 SR :)

Just finished my first online race, started 11th finished 7th... Solstices around LRP and my fastest time was 1.06s... im soo slow compared to you guys. :(

However, i only had 1 incident in the race which was caused when the guy in front spun forcing me wide onto the grass, so not a lot i could do to avoid it. Im happy however as i managed a nice consistant and clean race. :) Even to the point of gracefully letting the leader pass me on the penultimate lap.

So much for taking a couple of days off work to practice, if it could go wrong it has done. :(

I started lapping in the 1:06's iirc, and my first race certainly didn't go with just 1 incident, so you're doing better than me :p

I know, i checked your career history, but within 3 or 4 events you were down to the high 1.04s though... i simply cannot see where im dropping the time.

Dreeder runs off to see if there is an equivalent to "GPL Replay Analyser" for iRacing...

You can always sign up to a qually session m8 there is always someone ridiculously quick in them.

Just select cockpit view and once someone sets a fast time for the session if you double click him you can bring up his laps, double his fastest lap and the replay will start from that point.

But yeah a replay analyser would be great....first we need to be able to save replays mind...

Cheers, didnt think of that. :)

Biggest thing with the Solstice (imo) is using the brakes (or even lifting off) to help it turn in, it does slide a bit, and at first you might end up doing it too much and spinning/properly sliding,

Another thing, for LRP at least, is turn in points were a bit 'weird' for me and helped more than anything for me, the uphill and last corners I turn in far earlier than I first thought for, and the one between those two I turn in later than I was originally doing,

If it helps the exit speeds (or at least revs) that I aimed for, and can remember are:
T1 - Start braking between the 3 and 2 boards, 6k rpm as you touch the outside kerb after the second apex
Uphill corner I aim for 4.5k rpm (4th all the way from just before this point till T1 again)
Second to last corner is 4.5k again, shade over if possible
Last corner towards the end I was hitting around 5250 as I completely unwound the steering

There are a few replays on youtube I think, mostly crap quality though which isn't so helpful...

When are you hitting 4th?
Ive been doing T1 in 3rd, holding 3rd thru the Esses, briefly into 4th on the short straight before the hill, dropping to 3rd at the bottom of the hill, 4th over the crest, then again dropping to 3rd for the penultimate and 4th thru the final corner... Seems i should avoid dropping to 3rd as much, but 4th just doesnt seem to pickup at all well if you let the revs drop.

I use exactly the same gears, bar the penultimate corner where I always keep it in 4th, which is perfect as long as you keep your corner speed up.

I've seen people do 1.03's and not drop to 3rd for the hill either, basically 4th from the esses for the rest of the lap...I'm quicker if I do drop at the hill tho.

I hit 4th just after the esses (if I get a good exit onto that short straight it's just after the kerbing on the right), then I stay in 4th for the rest of the lap,

I looked at using 3rd through the uphill bit, and for me at least it didn't seem to be quicker or slower, saying that just a tiny mistake drops my rev's in 4th to 4k rpm, guessing with 3rd the same mistake wouldn't hurt the laptime as much...

The trick with the last corner seems to be lift/dab, turn in like mad, floor it, and unwind the steering much earlier than you think you need to. It seems to be hanging on to the steering lock with makes you spin.

yeah, there's a bump towards the end of the kerbing on the left, if you've got a reasonable amount of lock on at that point you will get sideways and then possibly spin,

I generally don't touch the brakes there, or even come completely off throttle, but depends if I get the turn in right or i'm gonna miss the apex :p

I just lift for a split second to help point the nose at the apex then back on full throttle as soon as poss.

It's not just the bump either, the track kind of falls away on the outside as well so I find I almost have to preempt a little bit of opposite lock because if you wait till you get out there before you turn into the slide then you've already lost it.

I tried lifting lots, lifting little, braking, the lot, not quite sure which is best yet.
Was messing with a left footed dab on the brakes without coming off the throttle, seemed to work quite well, not actually losing any speed at all really, just rocking the thing onto it's front wheels.

Interesting corner in some of the faster cars......ie it takes YEARS off me in the skippy.

Bought the silver crown car (just late model and modifiedSK left), Sears (will NOT call it infineon, pah sponsorship stinks ;) ), and Barber's training place....LOADS of fun all round.
The SC round Lowes was a fairly focusing experience I must say, was like being back in nascar 2003, "Turn you horrid tank!!,,,,,OK OK stop turning, STOP TURNING".

I cancelled my membership after trying both the Solstice and the other basic car. Just found it no fun with them. Is it worth getting one of the others as until I've raced a bit with the basic cars I'm not going to be able to race online with say the Mazda or other open wheel.
