Hi,

Car in London, ran out on 2nd of this month, driving back today to an MOT centre (400 miles away). If he gets pulled, then with the appointment booked and phone number there to call would that pass being so far?

There are hundreds of MOT stations around london, just book him into one of those.
400m for an MOT is a joke tbh.

AFAIK, it is illegal to book an MOT centre so far away and then drive that distance.

The centre has to be within a reasonable distance (and 400 miles is not)

we can't get a space anyway, new reg and all. n/m

Whats that got to do with MOT's?

You need to book an MOT thats a reasonable distance - 400 miles is not - and you need to be driving to it. I can't see how he'd make it in time even if it was considered reasonable?

It's the start of September, so 55's that were registered on release day or close to this date are getting MOT's.

Thanks, that was clarified by ci_newman. You can't see someone getting from London to Cheshire in 6 hours?

Doesn't make any difference - you can MOT a car up to 1 month in advance anyway to preserve the original anniversery and the extra 'rush' of cars all had MOT's which expired on 1st September, therefore it's the last week in August thats the busiest. From that day onwards it's just a normal distribution of cars throughout September-February.

I didn't notice him explain you need to be driving directly to the MOT.

400 miles you said. Thats a push to get it done within a working day, and to the MOT centre, and the test completed, before the end of the working day. I was also assuming he hasn't started to drive back yet otherwise your questions would have been irrelevent if he's already on his way :p

I think that could be established in the first post. :D

Thats just MOT's - you can rarely ever get a same day MOT irrespective of the time of year. I had to book mine a week in advance last time and mine is due in November.

Should be fine. AFAIK MOT doesn't come up on ANPR so you'll only have to explain yourself if you get pulled and they check manually, or if you get in an accident. Even then you can say that you are driving to a pre-booked appointment.

It may not be fine if he gets pulled. The exemption for driving to/from an MOT test centre or place to perform repairs is based on a reasonable distance. 400 miles is not a reasonable distance in this context.
