BACKSTORY

been collecting watercooling stuff over the last few months
got most of the standard stuff already

pump/res combo
alphacool rad + fans
dangerden 1/2" tubes [couldnt get masterkleer]
primochill coils

its all been sitting around for a while
reason being is that the case i want still isnt in the country yet so i am not rushing with the water system

its only cooling the cpu

to be honest its more of an aesthetic plan but hoping to be able to clock higher too

picking up an EK supreme clear cpu block soon

QUESTIONS

with me having the bulk of the stuff already i have been looking at barbs

i need 6 in total

i was thinking that compression fittings look pretty good - and should do the job well on 1/2" tubing

what are your thoughts on this?
im not keen on the idea of plastic clips etc

also will two compression fittings fit on the EK supreme clear cpu block that i am getting?

also - read so many conflicting reports on coolant [i guess its personal preference] but would i be ok just using a bottle of F1?
or should i use an alternative

thanks in advance for the advice

Can't advice you on the compression fittings but as far as coolant goes I just bought a litre of Feser.

I know many people say on here, save money, buy water from Halfords, and some anti-corrosive and anti-algae stuff and your sorted for pennies etc but I just feel that the £8 or whatever after you have spent many £100's on your rig and watercooling is just not worth fussing over.

If Feser was £20 then it might be a different story.

cool - well i will grab a bottle of f1 when i get my block then

anyone use comp fittings or should i get standards and use clips

I would use compression fittings for 1/2". 8/10mm maybe, but not 1/2".

I have never seen compression fittings in anything other than 8/10mm myself. I think that even if you could get them in 1/2 size the increased diameter would make it nigh on impossible to fit two of them next to each other on a fusion block. The advantage of compression fittings to me is it is easier to dismantle and reasabmle than if you used hose clips or shrinkage. If I built my loop again I would probably go compression for most if not all of it.

Compression fittings for 8/10mm work well. I've just put them in my system and run it without hiccup for a month. Yes, they're slightly more expensive than standard barbs w/ Masterkleer, but the differrence is reasonably small... however, it's personal choice.

As for Feser, you are more than welcome to use it for greater assurance (to a degree) that corrosion won't occur within your system. But it is much more expensive than distilled water (the biggest UK supermarket chain sell it for 50p/ltr. In an amusingly ironic contradiction, I see Feser as a rip off (whilst perfectly happy to use compression fit hardware).

They do work well with 8/10mm, but they can reduce the bore to 6mm. Push fittings are better for 8/10mm as you keep the full 8mm.

Tho I myself use 8/11mm compression fittings as my 8/11mm Tygon is too soft for the push fittings.

you guys are all thinking of the old style compression fittings with the tiny tubing.

Fesser and bitspower have made compression fittings for full size tubing.

They are expensive but would work well.

I know that 2 1/2" compression fittings DO NOT fit on the D-Tek Fuszion V1 as i tried it.

the Ek supreme looks like it might have a little more space.

I myself jsut use barbs and cable ties compression fittings look nice and i have used them in the past. I found some a pain to remove. But that depends how oftne you change your build / loops / loops,

I used 8/10mm compression fittings and didnt like them, im getting some 3/8" BP compression fittings when im rebuild my loop.

I also used the feser one purple coolant for 2 weeks and it stained my tube and res, now using distilled water+PT Nuke :)

Interesting I was about to buy some 1/2" compression fittings :S

Is 8/10 mm tubing and significant reduction in performance from 1/2" ?

So would the 1/2" comp fittings cob linked to be a waste of time?

it would be going on an ek clear block
if they are massive - would they fit?

i thought they would look tidier than clips and that they would eliminate the need to buy barbs and clips

They wouldn't be a waste of time as they'd do the same thing as barbs and clips. But there is a chance that they won't fit on the block, tho you would should no isses with a rad, res or pump.

just window shopping for my WC rig and like the look of the 8/10mm compression fittings - Is there any real difference between PVC or PUR tubing ?

Personally I would never buy PUR tubing. Looks tacky IMO. Performance wise I would always go for normal tubing.

Also, watch out for the new TFC compression barbs coming soon (not the ones linked above) ;)
