Just got myself an Asus 4850, expecting a huge leap after running a 7600GT for a few years now.

Worked great on COD4, but fails miserably when trying to run Crysis. The whole system crashes after a couple of minutes of playing and reboots the system :(

I've removed 2 sticks of geil memory to see if that helped matters at all, but no joy, and removed the oc on the cpu too. But still the crashes.

System is as follows:

Enermax EG565AX (565W)
Q6600 at stock ( :( )
Abit IP 35 Pro
4Gb Geil RAM (at stock)
3x HDDs
1x DVD
2 external USB powered hubs
Vista x64 Ultimate
Catalyst 8.8 drivers

I'm now on the verge of return the card and going back to Nvidia as I've never had any problems with those cards (I ran a 8800GT for a short time).

Anybody got any bright ideas as to where the issue may lay?

Do I need a beefier PSU?
Do I need better RAM?
Is there possibly a problem with the card?

Cheers

I'd check the temps on the card. It may well be overheating.

Load up latest version of rivatuner as it has historic graph monitoring of your fan speed and temps.

I find that if I try and overclock my 4870 too much then it crashes in Crysis.

I know your not overclocking but that is worth looking at.

Plus did you properly clean out yoru old Nvidia drivers?

I, and lots of pther people on the net, have had big problems with not quite getting rid of the Nvidia stuff before moving over to ATI.

You should have done the following:

Remove Nvidia software and drivers.
Reboot into safe mode
Run driver cleaner or driver sweeper
Shut down, remove Nvidia card and put in ATI card.
Reboot
Install ATI drivers and software

Worth looking at.

Also it might be something else with your system and best to eliminate all possibilities.

Run memtest to test the memory.

Run Prime95 or Intel Burn test thingy (can't remember its full name but its on this forum somewhere)

It may be your cpu or memory which is unstable and not your graphics card.

Also is Crysis patched with the latest version?

Lots to check I'm afraid.

Cheers guys. Looks like it was the simplest thing of all ie uninstall it, boot into safe mode and do a full clean, then re-install.

Another lesson learnt :(

Thanks for your help

if its overheating, try the fan fix to increase the fan speeds

Read the thread in future before replying. The reply below is from the person who asked the question and has now reported that the problem that was once there, is now gone :).

Agreed, im running mine on a 520w with a single 12v rail at 28amps, runs fine.

I'm running mine on a 380w Antec earthwatts PSU and I have had no problems. According to the antec web site it has a combined 12v rail of 34 amps! I was going to upgrade the PSU but it seems to be perfectly stable and the air coming out of it is cool.
