isnt 3.33ghz fast enough already for a 8600

The clue may be in the company name!

Also my e8400 cost considerably less than your e8600 and I run it @3.6.

your dead right im under water but only run my E0 Q9550 at 3.4 its a sweet spot for ram fsb and allows me to kepe the volts low.

Why watercool if you don't overclock?

To OP yes 3.33Ghz may be fast enough but you could've saved a lot of money by going for an E8200 for example and overclock to 3.33Ghz.

There are people who overclock for fun and benchmarks and there are the majority who overclock to get the best value for money.

ffallic has a E5200 @ 4Ghz. Now that's value for money. Personally i overclock for fun and value for money. Extra performance for free is a very good things.

Because overclocking is enjoyable, and you get to wave your e-peen around afterwards. And what's wrong with something being even faster, if it costs you nothing? :p

indeed, if you want 3.3ghz, buy a 8400, spending extra for a 8600 you must now get to like 4.5ghz, im not sure on how much they overclock exactly but you have to max it out!!!!!!

Do you have a water proof keyboard and mouse?:D

ive spilt a whole pint on my cheap KB, didnt do nothing, it still worked, just needed to dry it..

Ive got a p5q-e board with a [email protected]. Basically i see everyone overclocking to 4.0ghz plus and i just want to know why, isnt 3.33ghz fast enough anyway. I find it fast already!.
Hey Onion82!

there is hardly any good reason for the average person to pursue these ridiculously fast processor speeds! :o You will hear of plenty of attempted valid reasons why people really get stuck into this whole overclocking malarkey but really it's a storm in a teacup and is mainly a geeky fun pastime and leisure pursuit not to mention a little "mine is faster than yours!"

There are a few areas of computing that respond well to overclocking, like folding@Home, Multimedia Creation and to some extent gaming.

I don't mind a bit of overclocking and system tweaking myself but all this latest tech seems to work crazy fast out the box for me lol! :D

Also a new system always has a 'wow this is the............', but after a few weeks or even days the next cpu is available and over clocking will allow you to 'catch up'.
