Morning :)

As it's getting closer to some decent titles being released over Autumn (Far Cry 2, Fallout 3 etc..), I'm looking to replace my basic Microsoft Keyboard with something a little more elaborate.

I have narrowed it down to 2 keyboards. The Eclipse II or the Logitech G11. I did look at the new Saitek Cyborg & the G15 but funds don't allow it.

Have any of you experienced either of these keyboards and which one would you use? It is ideally going to be for mainly FPS and FSX with controls for media.

Thanks

I was asking myself the same question about a week ago, read some reviews and they all came back with very positive views on the saitek eclipse 2...

So I bought that one and wow, i'm not going to look back! Keys are dead silent (useful if you game when your gf is asleep). Very comfortable, keyboard doesn't slip around my desk, and the backlight is a neat little feature, especially with customisable buttons (goes with my black and blue Razer mouse, Tele, Comp etc).

But really, this keyboard is very comfortable and been a joy to use :)

Saitek! Nice comfy keyboard to use, quiet and colourful if required.

I agree with that but I have both & find the older eclipse actually better for typing & gaming, sadly with the older eclipse the keys tend to wear off :(

for a backlit keyboard you can never go wrong with *** eclipse so really it comes to wether you pay in the dark.

The Eclipse II is a great keyboard. Had mine for just over a year and love it!:p

Has nice keys, is a good weight (so no sliding around desk) and the backlight is brilliant for late night gaming.

I love my Eclipse, the only minor niggle (and it is minor) is that it doesn't remember which colour you like (it has a choice of blue, red or purple). I have it red as it matches my razer mouse. Everytime I turn the PC on I have to hit the colour change button once in Windows (do it before and you will have to do it again).

As I said only a minor problem.

I bought a Saitek II and had to replace it with a few months due to some keys not working anymore. You had to press them really hard to get them to work (something that other people had reported online when I searched).

Also the back lighting is not even, much brighter some places than others, has bleed from some areas (also complained about a lot online).

Also I found that as a gaming board it wasn't great as you get a bios beep if you press more than 3 or 4 buttons at once, one of the features of the logitech if I remember correctly is that it allows lots of simultaneous button presses without the keys 'locking up'.

Having said that I replaced my Saitek with a Microsoft Reclusa which is also backlit and is higher quality in feel to the Saitek IMO.

The saitek eclipse II is a good keyboard, I prefer the old saitek a bit more but I'm sure you'll be happy with either :)

Well I have looked at the 2 Saitek's and would like to ask a few questions.

Does the Eclipse have a volume up & down?

I see the Eclipse 2 has the control to turn the dimmer up and down. Does that control the volume also as I cannot see any more buttons to do this?

Thank you.

hey, get the eclipse 2. you might as well as it is newer and has more features.

on the original eclipse, it does have a volume up button, volume down, mute, backlight button.

the dial on the eclipse 2 only controls the bright ness (and eventually turns the light completely off). in the top right corner of the eclipse you have your volume up/ down button, underneath that the mute and change cooler button. and to the left of the dimmer switch you have the change track forward/backward button and underneath you have the play/pause and stop buttons.

hope that helps.

EDIT: and i have had both eclipse 1 and 2. and you should definatly get the eclipse 2. the added features are really useful, i use the media controls and the volume controls a lot espcially when gaming and listening to itunes or wmp.
