Well, this time tomorrow I shall be on a plane heading away from rainy on England and towards sunny (well, hurricany!) Miami for 12 days on the West Coast. Hoping to visit the Everglades and Key West once all the storms have gone!

Won't be taking my big guns alone but hoping I'll be able to cover most situations with the 28-70 and a 70-200 with 2x TC (did some tests, this combo was slightly better optically than the Sigma 400 f5.6 I was going to take).

So, fingers crossed I get 'some' good weather - although getting some good storm pictures would be pretty cool as well!

Good luck Mr Penguin. I was surprised to hear that your 70-200 with 2xTC is better than the sigma, I don't get on at all well with my own 70-200 with even a 1.4xTC screwed to the front, what does this say about the Sigma! :p

Looking forward to seeing your pics on you return.

Have fun in the everglades! I doubt you'll be missing much in the UK on the basis of the weather forecast :(

I was surprised too! However, since the introduction of focus fine tune I think it's really shown up how mismatched lenses and bodies can be sometimes. The 70-200 with TC is only marginally better but it was better, plus it's easier to carry a TC than a whole other lens AND I still get VR just in case it's needed so it was the wise choice :)

Thanks - sorry to be a pain - can you be specific on the model, as I have the same Canon lens.
The Nikon TC 20E II but it won't work with Canon

Just thought I'd say a quick hello from a very sunny and hot (32 degrees today) West Palm Beach before I head out for the day. Just had breakfast after a lay in from a very long day of travelling yesterday. Ended up being awake for 24 hours before passing out in bed lol.

/gets ready to be annoyed with very nice shots of various wildlife from the Everglades etc :p

You're not missing much over here, the forecast for the weekend isn't even worth thinking about!

Don't hold your breath lol. The 400mm I can get from the 70-200 + 2xTC isn't proving nearly close enough and the quality whilst ok isn't exactly exciting me lol

Was going to go to the Everglades today but this morning it's windy and raining so we'll do that another day. It is only 9am though so we'll see what the day brings. Still hot though, about 28 degress despite the weather!

Stop talking to us and go and enjoy the holiday :)

My jaunt around the Sunshine state a few years ago was fantastic, get to the Keys, Key west, and the Everglades.

if you find yourself up in Orlando, head over to Colonial Photo and Hobby - a great camera-shoppers experience. Shame the dollar:pound rate's just peaked - otherwise there'd be a great urge to shop!

PS - don't think this recommendation breaks OCUK rules - after all, that shop is over 3000 miles away... if it does, then mods - delete away!

Well, I got back yesterday! had a great time. Will try and get some photos up soon but it may well not be until next week as I'm back at work now then off to france for the weekend.
