Hey All,

I just went to the opticians and they told me I need glasses. I asked about contacts but they said "not possible"... I'm short-sighted so have difficulties, for example, sometimes reading bits on the board at school.

Does anyone know if they're just trying to get as much money as possible with their overpriced glasses, or are there genuine reasons why people wouldn't be able to have contact lenses (I don't have dry-eye or anything like that)? Is it worth going to another opticians for a second opinion?

Any opinions would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

I decided my eyes needed a little help. I went to an opticians and said I wanted contacts. They said I have to have glasses. I left.

I went to Tesco opticians, said I want contacts. They said you should have glasses but you can have whatever you want. I left, with contacts.

What opticians? Try specsavers :) - I was told I couldn't have lense' due to the fact I have 'toric eyes (oval) - specsavers soon sorted me out! :)

I'd ask them why it's not possible. It does seem a tad odd that they would say that with giving a proper explanation.

If they still don't give you a good reason (good imo would be a medical explanation), seek a second opinion.

what opticians? there are reasons why contacts might not be suitable but it's relatively rare and you'd expect some reasoning.

THere are medical reasons why everyone cannot have contact lenses. At first I couldn't due to having chronic dry eyes, whereby lenses would put strain and make them worse. Now I can, using water-based ones, but have to use them occasionally only, for short periods, but have to have regular check-ups. So, I keep them just for sports and going out.

If you d get contacts, try and get the continues wear monthlies (ie you sleep in them) they are 10X more comfy than all the others, and it's great being able to wake up and not bother with glasses/contacts etc just one step down from laser surgery :D

Sadly though not every one can wear them :(

Also they;d want to on contacts as then you're paying every month :p

(£15 a month mine cost me) - but get half price glasses.

Just go to Dolland and Aitchison, they're pretty good. I was with them for 3 years, my lenses are Toric. Only left because Specsavers offer better frames.

If you sign up to the contact lenses by post scheme they will give you 50% off glasses/sun glasses too :)

Indeed, I'm wearing Bausch and Lomb monthly continuous wear lenses. Have to clean them ever so often because of protein deposits, but most of the time I can't even tell they're in.

I've had dailys (from the cheap ones to the expensive ones) they;re better than the monthly ones you have to take out every night(well the expensive daylies are the cheep ones are horrible), but nothing comes close to the continus wear ones. can;t even tell you've got them in.

I wear dailies and love them :) 'focus dailies' to be exact :) - I wouldn't get monthly's for the simple fact that I'd probably lose them! :p

i Thought wearing lenses all the time reduced the amount of o2 to the veins in your eyes? Id get them aslong as there arnt any side effects.
